I tried shaking my camera and hitting the side a little. It worked. I got rid of the memory card error.

  Okay, thank goodness for this site. Albeit it was a bit late and the import event did not get memorialized but my DCS-F717 is fixed from the dreaded error. Tried the eraser to no avail, but did try the gentle thumping all around the camera and it worked, go figure...
