I got into trouble when I borrowed my fiancees camera under the strict promise that I would not break it. Of course when that is the last thing you say, something always happens.

Needless to say, the bang on the knee trick worked perfectly and I would strongly recommend it over the steep cost of returning the camera. If it is something small that knocked the lens out of whack, it should work. However, if you know that is sustained a good solid fall, it might not work
