It works.. Hold in left hand and hit it with the right hand. I had been on the telephone with Sony and that is what they wanted to fix the problem.. $111.00
I like your solution better..

I even took my to a repair shop and they said as long as the picture were good when printed forget.. I don't do business there anymore either...

  Yes, not everyone has a spare $111.00 gathering dust to spend getting their camera fixed. And since the "Quick Fix" is free, you can't beat the price!
  
  You are right, the camera repair shop missed the point: with the screen being blank/white you can't change anything as far as setup...
