If you find that one of your stereo speakers which sounds distorted is perfectly OK when changed over to the other channel, then that indicates that the internal stereo amplifier has developed a fault on one of its outputs.

Of course if this applies, you would have found that the other speaker that was previously OK, on being changed over wouldn't be! It then goes without saying that the internal amplifier requires replacing.
