SONY AIR-8

William Posted May 07, 2007

Sony Air-8 portable receiver.

Hello. I am looking for a volume control potentiometer for my Sony Air-8 receiver. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I might look for one or the part number for this item? My present one must be dirty as it is scratchy and hard to control, even though I have tried contact cleaner on it. Thanks for any informaton.

Was looking for service info on an AIR-8 when I ran across your message. Retired pilot bud handed me his and said the squelch was non-op, but all else OK. I just thought that it was cool to get to play with a dinosaur scanner while I poked around for some service info. He mentioned that he bought this one at a place called Sportys, and that they have a service shop, maybe they got a volume pot for you. Is ther any service info available for this model? Thanks

I have the exact replacement part in stock. $50.00 plus shipping. I also do a flat rate repair including parts and labor for $98.00.

I replaced this potentiometer in a customer's set about two years ago. You had better have a great deal of experience working on these units before you attempt to DIY. They are the radio equivalent of a fine Swiss watch. Very complicated and delicate. Be extremely careful. JK

I bought mine a week ago from this one equipment company... Try to reach them at bunker.equipments@yahoo.com if they still have in stock.

William, I have the same Sony AIR-8, and mine also suffers from a bad volume pot. I found this site that claims to offer parts for it: brandsmartusa.partsearch.com/Model/Sony/Sony/AIR8.aspx Interested to learn if you found any other sources for parts, and as well any sources for service of the unit.
