I have the same problem with the "lens cap" error, everything is working fine (playback,menu options) except for the black screen when on taping mode. I tried adjusting focus & exposure functions manually but all efforts remained futile. I would highly appreciate if you could help me on this. Thanks!!

    Two points on this query, you haven't actually mentioned what model of camcorder you are referring to, as these symptoms are not always caused by the same reason on different models, although I strongly suspect you have one in a range that was fitted with defective image sensors. The second point is that FULL info can only be supplied to a DIRECT e-mail address, done by clicking on my link (red) and entering it into the box provided.
