I'm having the same problem with the DVD burner not accepting every disc. I found that if I left a disc out of the package that I had gotten an error message on...after a few days it might just accept and record on it the next time. I do get the error message after the DVD goes through the loading process...which seems logical. But when it accepts the same disc days later it appears to be a recorder problem. Never had I played a tape on this DVD/VCR combo or recorded to a tape and when I tried it recently (I've had the machine a little over a year) it would not play a tape. The counter went to 6...and the VCR shut off. I tried other tapes and the same thing happened each time. I guess you get what you pay for...and this thing seems to be nothing but junk.

Provided they are brand new "blank" disks of the DVD-R/RW type, and its a case of after you insert the disc and it attempts to load the message is then seen to come on before it goes through the automatic formatting procedure, (spinning circle on LCD) then it would strongly suggest that its a recorder problem. Purely a long shot, try disconnecting the unit from the mains power supply for a minute or so then trying the procedure again.
