JVC model GR-DVL725u

D. Green Posted Apr 25, 2009

Cannot transfer video to notebook running 64 bit Vista

Vista does not "see" the video camera. Am using ieee 1394(a) and (b) compliant Dynex ExpressCard Adapter in an HP Pavilion dv6-1030us. Four emails to JVC produced NO help... just as frustrating as contacting Microsoft. They reply, but offer absolutely nothing useful toward a solution to the problem.

Meant to add, that the always possible "compatibility" problem aspect is why JVC always has this little proviso mentioned in the DVi coupling to PC section of their camcorder user manuals.

Well the possible reason that you haven't been successful in getting a reply is because this is a problem "very" frequently experienced by quite a number of people and which although in theory should have a simple straightforward answer unfortunately does "not" in many cases, as so many variables can be involved. I you have followed the rule of having everything coupled up "before" switching on and then switch the camcorder on last, or if everything is already coupled up and switched on try switching the camcorder "OFF", wait about 10 secs then, "ON" again and its still not recognised then thats where things get difficult, as one reason for the failure could be that the PC's firewire capture card driver is not compatible with this particular camcorder or even that the "capture" facility of the editing software being used isn't suitable either. Its these type of problems which necessitate lengthy two way communications that makes companies like JVC or Microsoft shy away, as each of them know that the problem could well be caused by the other parties equipment and something which is not easy to prove without being on site with a second camcorder to hand, or/and a second PC, as in many cases this is the only way of verifying where a problem originates.
