NEWS FLASH!! This crazy trick also works if your camera is giving the message "turn camera off and back on again" while the lens zooms in and out repeatedly! Mine was doing that and every time I turned it back on, it just did the same thing again. I found these posts, but didn't see anything useful to help me with my particular problem. It seemed as if my camera was trying to focus, so I tried it and it worked! And after 2 or 3 bangs to my knee, the message disappeared, my LCD screen focused and I was able to take pictures! It sounds like some kind of voodoo, but amazingly, it works! I hope this helps someone with a similar problem to mine. I am so excited not to have spent any money to fix my camera!
