I have a CD-500 with a couple of CD-RWs that have this C:13:01 error. The conventional wisdom with the floppies and even the memory sticks is to format them on a PC. How do I format a CD-RW on a PC. Actually I have a Mac, but I'm sure I can scare up a friend with a PC if that's what I need to use (have a PC at work, but no CD burner).

I found that if I used the Windows Image Transfer Wizard in XP (really any image transfer software should work if you can select which images too transfer) - it would read the card and display all of the images. I would try to copy all of the images - usually failing on the 1st image. I would retry but this time unselecting the image it failed on. Then I found that I was able to retireve the remaining images. Yes, I did loose a picture. But loosing 1 is a heck of a lot better than loosing the entire memory stick! I hope this information helps. I have received this error with both the 16MB stick that cam with my DSC-P72 and the Lexar 256 (128x2) I purchased seperately. If this is truly a problem of the memory stick technology - Sony needs to give of this proprietary technology and go with the SDD or Flash everyone else uses.

Hi the windows & sony memory stick users,
The problem caused by low battery level when you try to copy the files from digital camera to your PC.
All you need to do is just go to my computer on windows, click right button on sony memory stick drive and then do 'format'.
couldn't find the way to recover the picutres or movies you took but at least, it works for the next around.
    hope it helps.

    I too am getting a E:61:00 error.
Even though I wasted 100$ for repairs after a month or so its giving me the same error. I am just out of my mind to waste my money on further repairs.
Can anybody tell me how to overcome this error if ever there was a chance to do it manually.

bad news: the E:xx designation means it\'s tech time. they should have left you with some sort of warranty because the problem meant a definite physical repair/replacement took place.

Yeah, I too had a similar experience at the start, but then again it started giving me the same message. SO i went to the sony service center, and got it repaired for nearly 100 $ he said, he cant gaurantee the permanent elimination of this problem. so i am hanging still for a good solution. :(

I got the E:61 on my cybershot and followed the whacking advice. I dropped it again from two feet to a wooden table the E:61 stopped blinking but it wouldn\'t focus so I dropped it again on it\'s end and it worked perfectly..what can I say?

I can't believe this actually worked. I was ready to throw my Cybershot DSC-P100 away, gave it the last ditch effort of dropping it on the floor, and now it works better than it has in months. If you're at that point where you've given up, just go for it though it sounds completely ridiculous.

Too funny. I would have bought a new camera after encountering the same problems, but held off becuase they won't use the same memory sticks. I googled around, found this thread and smacked the camera against my hand a few time. It's good as new now.

Far Out!! The dropping technique is the bee's knees. I dropped it from a height of only 6 inches onto a carpeted floor and the E:61:00 error went away. Camera is working perfectly again! The Sony techs are probably crapping themselves now that their little money making secret is out now eh? Thanks a million to the one who suggested this! Peace & Love

WOW Thanks George! I have a Sony T7 and had the memory stick error c:13:01 and took your advice and dropped it from only 6"(cause I was scared) and now IT WORKS again. I am LOL and sooo happy. I love the camera for its size and was about to buy a replacement on ebay for $130 but now I can save my dough. Is this what the techs do?I guess if "it works, don't fix it"

My sony camera is getting the same E:61:00 error. Its been like this for a year now. Wondering if there is a cheap fix or is it time to junk it. The camera was perfect, before I took it apart to clean some dust out of it and put it back together. Now it just gives me the error every time I turn it on. Please post if anyone here has had any luck getting the error fixed. Thanks, Gregg

I have the CCD-TRV16 camera and it had the E:61:00 error after lending it to a friend. Go figure... Anyways, I tried starting the camera looking down at a surface with no luck. I then tried looking up with the camera and adjusted the zoom over the full range and it started working fine. If it works for me it may work for others...

i got this error too, tried resettting everything. Removed and reinstall battery, memory card. Many many times Then i got sick of it and followed the other guy's advice and whack it a few times with my hand (while the camera was off) then all of a sudden it works. I suspect some focusing mechanism is getting jammed inside. Hope it works 4 u

I also had this problem, found this link and tried the whacking method... I tried dropping it like 6-7 times at different heights and hitting my hand with it with no avail.. I tuned off the auto/smart zoom and dropped it from about 2 feet on my linoleum floor... IT WORKS! I can focus again! Try and try again! Good luck!

    • Re: THE SOLUTION BELIEVE ME... PLEASE JUL - 18th Nov 2004 18:22
Visit this site and apply the solution two or three times and after you will take your pictures http://www.fewin.com/sony/sony.htm Symptoms : · After pressing the power button in capture mode, the lens would extend and a slight humming from what appeared to be the auto focus motor could be heard for about 5 seconds. When the motor stopped humming, the camera would beep and display E:61:00 in the LCD Screen. · Camera would extend the lens but not be able to focus on anything past 8 inches or so. · Zoom in and out did not work. · Playback mode and the Setup mode was not affected. Solution : This may sound crazy and this has not happened since I did this but here is what I did to get rid of that error message. I have not had that problem since but here was my steps: · Turn the camera off · Hold the camera face down over a hard surface (Like you are going to take of your desk) with only about half an inch above the surface. · Turn the camera on · Let the lens extend into the hard surface, don’t let it extend all the way. Mine retracted slightly and then tried to extend again (let it extend the second time). · Lift the camera away from the hard surface and notice that the error message is gone. · Take pictures of your favorite things. Theory : I suspect there is a turn style screw that has a minimum and a maximum point that it should not go past during operation. For some unknown reason, I think this error message means that I am less than the minimum set point. This would explain the motor humming (spinning) trying to push the auto focus motor into this acceptable range. By not letting the camera fully extend, it basically forced it back into a good position in that range. This could explain why I have read others being able to fix an error message of E:61:10. The simple solution to fix that error message was to the let the lens fully extend and give the lens a good whack. Possibly this error message for this means, that the auto focus motor was past the maximum set point. The whack forced it back into a good position in that range.

FUNCIONA !!!!!!!!!!!! Y LISTO !!!!!!!!!! PS: Tengo la Sony DSC-P71

We had the same problem, and we fixed it! First, identify that it's the AF motor drive by A) Turning it on and putting your ears against the camera, then hearing a humming noise for about 5 seconds. B) The error comes up flashing on the screen: "E:61:00". Okay, so you've identified your problem! Next you wanna fix it, right? ;) A) Put the camera about a half inch from a hard surface. B) Let the lense go out and hit the surface and retract a little bit. Let it go out all the way when it tries the next time. If that doesnt fix it, try this: A) Turn it on and let the lense go out fully B) See where the lense comes out of the camera? The little round crack that surrounds it? Wiggle the lense a bit and blow in there a bit. (Be sure not to blow on the lense!) Now turn it off/on again, and it should be fixed! If not, try these steps a few more times. If still nothing, then I suggest phoning Sony, but this DID work for us, so hopefully it'll work for you :)

I refused to send mine in for service for the 61:00 error... so since it was already a goner... I banged it a few times and now it works. (Turned it off... banged it on the counter... turned it on... not fixed... turned it off... banged it again from a different direction... turned it on... worked!) If you are considering throwing it away anyway, try giving it a good bang and getting a few more months of life out of it! :)

Isn't the internet just the best tool! My DSC-S50 Digital Still Camera has worked faultlessly for over 4 years, but I turned it on this morning to take photos of the kids and dreaded E:61:00 displayed. Bugger - 3 days before christmas and the camera needs fixing! Thought I'd check what the Net had to say about it - a good sharp bang - why not - it now works - you little ripper. Thanks all, but I do wonder how long the camera will continue working for, or is it now on its last legs?

I am very dissapointed with Sony. I have a 6 week old DSC-W1 - sure as Moses, I got the same error - I was on a camping trip and the lens would not retract - great! (with all the dust around) I eventually "coached" the lens gently back into position...then read this site when I got home. At first glance I reckoned you guys were 'cuckoo' to suggest dropping such a delicate micro engineered device (the hand slaps were not an effective treatment). After reckoning that Sony service would take a month to get back to me, I too got the book out (Fortune magazine to be exact), and let the baby slip from my hands from a distance of 15 cm (gentle thud!) Hey, presto ! it works again no problem. Thanks to your site I am taking pics again! Shame on Sony to produce a camera mechanism that plays up as it does...across a number of models so it seems. I think Sony needs to do a recall or something.

Great tip on the "give it a good knock" solution, my DSC-P9 starter playing up lat night after working perfectly for almost 3 years, I thought I would be consigning it to the bin. I initially looked on the Sony site for some support but nothing there, and after reading the posts here gave my camera a couple of hard slaps with the base of the camera into the palm of my hand (Wasn't that keen on dropping it onto the kitchen floor) and it has started working perfectly again. I'm very grateful for who ever put the solution up, and in hindsight I can see why Sony wouldn't be so keen to tell their customers that there is a frequently experienced problem fault that requires the camera to be thrown or thrashed to resolve it.

This is kind of against the theme of the message board, but I called Sony about my problem, and they said they would fix it for free. My DSC-P150 broke and would not be fixed by any of the techniques listed on the site. So, for $6 shipping, they replaced my lens and got it back to me within a week. Sure, the C/S guy tried to charge me $139, but I just kept talking to him for a while and asked to talk to his boss, and we had a deal in not time.

This is amazing I was laughing and jumping for joy at the same time. I got Sony DSC-P100 camera. We were in the middle of a fishing trip when the lens got stuck and error came up. I was SOOO frustrated with it, and I love my little camera. I had it for a little over a year and it worked just fine. So when it all happened I "helped" the lense to retract and when I got home googled the error... BINGO!!! I really din't want to take it in to get fixed and on the other had was really worried about dropping it. I simply powered the camera off and "helped" the lens and then just smacked the part of it where the lens is on my hand a couple of times and .... IT WORKS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!! Such a technical solution :o) Thank you sooo much for the advice.

lol instead of banging mine, i figure i should crack it open. i opened it all up and messed around wit it. it also gave me a huge shock. it scared me hahaha it kinda hurt. but after just messing around wit the lense and stuff i put it back together thinking it was hopeless and now the error is gone. also my zoom was very slow and now its normal YAY;)

just an update, it came back on but umm what i noticed is that the red light in the front came on, i think its the AF illuminator. not sure i turned down all the battery draining things and the error went away. but i'm not really sure whats going on... all i kno is, when its trying to suppress the power, the error comes up and my lcd gets real dark also my zoom is slow but when it didn't have the error, the zoom worked better and reached a farther distance.

i am from the philippines bought a BRAND NEW SONY P200 7.2 megapixel in hong kong with freakin salesman who is bargaining small time digicam hehe the "modus operandi" of those salesman but anyway i just got it got for 3 days and went to the beach for some hot summer vacation fortunately while doing some snap shots at the beach this freakin error came up " SONY E:61:00 ERROR " i was so disappointed and i was freakin panicking because my warranty will be at Hong Kong and it would take time to get back there...and im sure the sales man will just ignore it...damdam and i started doing the google search and found this site... i saw the 2 feet drop solution, tapping it with your hands and the putting the lens downward on your desk. but i was shock when other guys said to drop it 2 feet and i dont want to do that because it is a BRAND NEW digicam and dont want to put some scratches on it. while doing a research i run to my car to get the camera the first time this happens i cannot close my lens its all stock.... i tried the cold reboot OFF and ON then remove batteries change batteries too and remove memory stick and reset button near the battery compartment. so i force the lens to close it by pressing the power OFF and turn it clockwise at the same time which closes the lens and have to keep it to avoid more damage. now for the first step before trying the 2 feet drop... before turning ON the camera i TAP the back of the camera where the LCD is located real hard with my palm...and blow the side of the lens real hard...because it is stated from one of the solution...and turn ON the camera and VIOLA!!! IT WORKED!!! but wait...the lcd is foggy and i can only see clouds on the lcd with the scene...and i tried to wait for 5 minutes...and the thing is the moist from my mouth when i blow it real hard went to the lens and covered it with moist...rrr now it is working fine....moral do not blow the lens just TAP IT REAL HARD 2-3 times at the back of the lens...if you want to blow it just blow it gently to remove the small particles inside... sony im sorry you wont get any money repairs from me hehehe THANK YOU ALL!!! glenn mark sarmiento philippines SONY P200 7.2 mp

Wow!! I thought you all were stupid and no way was I going to drop this camera (even if it was already broke). I have the P-150 and getting the same freakin error. Has happened twice before and eventually it went away. Sony wanted $240 to even look at it. Um...no. So after holding the lens to a table, blowing on it, tapping on it nd all that other stuff, I finally decided to drop it. Held it about 3 feet above my carpet. Took 3 drops and now it works. Crazy!! Thanks to everyone.

I had the same problem. Took it to oficial service and said tha they needed to change the lens. US$ 300 in Argentina. No way I was gonna pay that, so I did the dropping thing 1.5 ft on a wooden surface and it started working. Don't laugh about this but it took me like 5 times to get it work perfectly and I think the more effective way it's making it crash on the display side. THX.

Thank you for your advice I use my camera Sony Handicome from 1998 Recently I drop it accidentally and it began to show E:61:00 error I went to one of offical service centers of SONY but they sent me to another. Another told that only opening and diagnostic would cost 40 USD and if I decide to repair the cost would be very high because all spare parts should be ordered and will come from abroad. I decide to search Google for understanding what "SONY E:61:00 ERROR" meant and found this site...At the first I was shocked when I found out your solution to drop it but anyway I with pain in heart decide to do it. So I drop it accurately twice and I was so surprised when discover that it become normally work after it. I think we should advice to SONY to add this method in their device operation manuals. THANK YOU ONE MORE TIME ALL!!! Mushegh Armenia

Dejelo secar unos segundos y vuelva a rociarlo. Suerte! Jose Costa Rica

I cant believe i found this thread, this saved me big bucks in repair costs. I have a Sony W1 and i got this error and after that a black screen saying to turn off the camera and on again. Did that 100 times, nothing worked. Then i read you guys dropping it and banging it and whatnot and i thought you guys were crazy! But amazingly, after banging it into the palm of my hand a couple of times, the lens retracted normally and the camera is working flawlessly now!!

U-N-B-E-L-I-E-V-A-B-L-E!! You think whacking something to make it work happens only in the movies, but it worked like a charm. Lucky for me I only had to drop it once. I have a Sony DSC-P32 and got the same E:61:00 error message and was out of focus. What I did was placed my sony in a sock and wrapped the rest of the sock around it once so it doesn't damage my wood table. I hesitated but I eventually dropped it about 1.6 feet on my wood table (I measured 2 feet and it seemed a bit too high to drop for the first try). I pulled it out of the sock and VOILA, the error message is gone!! My camera is back to normal. No one is crazy here! It really works! Thank you sooo much! -Art CA

Well, my sister who is away at college had this problem, as she described the problem over IM, I looked on google for a solution. I suggested hitting it and dropping it (just as I read on here) and she said she had been doing that out of frustration already, with no luck. As I suggested various permutations of what you guys said (do it on, do off, on with autofocus off/on, etc) she grew more and more frustrated and then announced she had thrown it accross the room (I'm not kidding). Her IM fell silent and shortly she came back on, of course in all caps, shouting that it was now working. So, if you're alternative is to go without a camera (considering repair can cost as much as a new camera) try elevating the trauma level!

I did not drop my cam, but after reading something about the motor, i decided to twist the lens couter clockwise until I heard a snap, and voila!!! I hit power and the error was goe, lens working perfectly. Everything is A-OK!!!

Since we bought the Sony PC200 in Feb this year it hasn't worked properly and is now frozen with Error 61 coming up. Initially it would say that you had 106 mins left or something then the battery would just conk out and the lens would froze until you recharge, now it is completely frozen and no pics/film can be taken. Error 61 is coming up and Access and it tells you to switch off & on which I've done loads and still frozen. Have spoken to Sony and will send it in for inspection as it is still under warranty. For you guys who have it still under warranty - if you look up Sony's website and find out where to return the camera to for inspection with proof of purchase and box, accessories etc it is Freepost. Good luck with Error 61 will letyou know the outcome Debbie

Did this about 6 times. (dropped it 6 inches onto a book)After about 5 times the lens started to work and the error went away but it wasn't focusing, 6th time fixed that. I've also pressed the reset button just in case in my attempts to solve the error with settings that I had changed something I shouldn't have.

This technique worked for me as well. I'm glad I tried it. My wife was telling me not to do it. It took about 10 drops to get it to work. However, I noticed that the drop that worked was the drop where I let the bottom of the camera hit the floor from about 2 feet (with the lens retracted). I read on another post that someone just wacked the bottom of his camera ... I believe that is the angle to shock the gears back on track. My camera type is a Sony DSC-W1. Joe Russell

The camera only focused up close; zoom didn't work. I flicking the side of my camera lense three times firmly while the camera was off did the trick. I turned it back on and the camera worked like a charm!

SONY CYBERSHOT DS-W5 Went to use above mentioned camera and greeted with E:61 flashing on screen and camera unable to focus. After talking to my friend who works in local camera shop, he claims it is very common Sony error. Sony says it has now been fixed. He says it has NOT. He said at first sight it appears to be a mechanical/spring problem with the lens, but can also be software related. One official Sony response is "......it's because the camera has not been used for a long time!" Here are the E type error messages you may get around this: E 61 00 Unable to adjust focus. Inspect lens block focus reset sensor E 61 10 Zoom operation fault. Inspect the lens block zoom reset sensor E 62 00 Steadyshot function not working. Inspect pitch angular velocity sensor E 62 01 Steadyshot function not working. Inspect yaw angular velocity sens THE CHEAP QUICK FIXES THAT HAVE WORKED 1. Hold the camera lens down above a hard surface. In "taking picture mode", press button to extend the motor lens.....so that the lens just can NOT quite fully extend. You may hear a small click as the lens meets the hard surface and trys to extend further. This should cure it OR 2. Turn off camera. Tap lens lightly a few times. OR 3. Turn off camera. Hit whole camera against hand (and say "don't do that, again or you will be in trouble") Check. If not fixed try SLIGHTLY harder whacks OR 4. Last resort fix. Turn off. Drop on to hardwood floor from about 4 inches. Increase height slightly each time until fixed or camera near breaking point 5. Bin it and get another, perhaps not a Sony! It's a throw away society. Digital stuff is cheap/changing rapidly. 6. Turn off camera. Hire a helicopter. Fly to maximum height. Drop camera out of window. Land helicopter. Go home. Give up taking pictures. THE OFFICIAL FIX(S) 1.Try a software RESET. Most cameras have a small recessed button somewhere or you can access a reset from within the set-up mode. 2.Also try Turning off the camera. Remove the battery or disconnect any AC power for 2 mins. Reconnect power and turn on. No Good? If it has just occured out of the blue (ie you havn't broken it) Then take it back/write to Sony and complain! Its a known fault and possible design error. They may do it for free.

Hi, I had the same problem (E:61:00) with my Sony PC330E camcorder. I tryed banging and stuff and it didn't work. Finally when I did the following sequence, it worked (I don't know if all steps are really necessary, but that's what I did): 1. Pressed the reset button of the camcorder. 2. Jiggled with the zoom button (w/t) while pointing the camcorder upwards and whacking it. 3. Stopped when the zoom started to act funny, and turned the camcorder off and then back on. 4. IT WORKS!!!!!

Well, I have already purchased a new camera since I could not get rid of the error message. Unfortunately, I left my new camera at a friend's house and I need a camera tomorrow, so . . . . back to troubleshooting the Sony. I came across this page and thought you all must be crazy but in a last ditch effort, I tickled the lense - nothing happened. Banged it while it was open - still nothing, so I was beginning to think this all was a joke, but then I tapped it quite firmly with my palm with the lense closed and when I powered it on - NO MORE ERROR MESSAGE!! Thank you!! Now I will be able to capture pictures tomorrow of my children and their great-grandparents!! I love message-boards!

I'll join the many others here in saying that this, shockingly, worked. I have the F-707. It gave me the E:61:00 message. I bummed out, figuring an expensive repair was coming (never mind the fact that I leave in 2 days to travel from Indiana to California to have Thanksgiving with my wife's parents and to visit some sites in San Fran such as Alcatraz and, thus, really need a camera). I Googled the message code, found this thread, and just took and whacked the barrel against my palm a couple of times. I started out gently, that didn't work. I did it pretty hard, but not so hard as to tear it up, and I didn't DROP it, but I gave it a good whack a couple times, on the barrel, on each side, and it works!€€ Now, will this be a longterm solution or is it a sign that my beloved camera is going to soon clonk out for good? I dunno, but for now, I am happy to report it is doing fine. I turned the camera off and on several times and have taken a couple of practice shots...and, so far, so good.

So I figured y'all were insane to whack your cameras to get it to work. I have a P200, purchased 1.5 yrs ago. I LOVE this digicam and was soooo sad that it came up first with a 61:00 error and then just said "turn camera off and on again". I tapped it, I blew into it, I prayed to digi-cam gods ... nothing worked. Then I dropped it. Now it works. Who knows if this will be a fix that will last or not but its better than nothing. It seriously distrubs me that so many people have had this issue and Sony doesn't seem to care or change its manufacturing practices. Have you all reported your issue to Sony? If they don't know how many people have the error, they won't change anything. Please consider reporting it.

Alright, This might be the true fix. First it doesnt like real cold temps and will cause the problem. Second, I took it completely apart inlcluding the internal transmission and from what I could find, it looks like the Optical View Finder causes the jam. It just rubs on the lens and follows a track for magnification. I broke it off on purpose and have not received the error unless I put it in the freezer (for testing of course)....and it was still few and far between for the error when frozen. I also greased it which I dont recommend...I even tried to wipe as much as I could of. I think this only causes more problems due to it thickens when cold. So if you dont use the optical view finder and are comfortable taking it apart, I think this will help. note: the optical view finder does not effect the lcd display.

Brilliant, I've just had the same problem with my ancient TRV15 analogue camcorder. Admittedly it did fall off a chair whilst in its bag by accident, but It would not auto-focus when the zoom was being used and this E:61:00 error kept appearing. All I did was apply slight pressure to the lens and this must have re-meshed the lens with the auto-focus drive motor. Sorted!

I was gentle at first and nothing happened. So I went for broke and whacked it HARD three times like I was hammering a nail. BINGO, I'm taking pictures of my kid's play tonight.

Lots of thanks - this is NOT a wind-up. I was on honeymoon with my new wife in Paris when her sony cybershot started giving this error. The lens wouldn't retract and the camera wouldn't focus. Using the reset button, replacing the batteries, etc. wouldn't work either. Reluctantly we concluded this had to be a hardware problem. So we googled E:61:00 and this was the first thread to come up. We thought it had to be a joke, but we were facing buying a new camera the next day so we had nothing to lose. IT WORKS!!! Just gently drop the camera a few centimetres onto a soft surface and it will jog the component into place.

I just got this error this morning. So frustrating! I bought an extended warranty though so there is still one year left. Do you think they will try to fix it or replace it? Because my camera is pretty outdated (DSC W1) and I really wouldn't mind getting a new one. But if they are only going to "repair" it then I think it would be better just to use this method than have it gone for 2 months (or who knows how long) for repairs.

Thanks for the advice: I gently tapped the lens flat down on the table and the message is gone and the pics are clear again.

I cant believe this. It worked. This is the third Cypershot camera that I own. My DSC-P100 gave me the same error and I had to pay $100 plus to have it repaired. My DSC-P200 just gave me the same error. I did two light taps with the lens open and it fixed its self. WHAT THE heck is SONY doing with these cameras. Hey SONY how about putting that in to your troubleshooting guide for error E:61:00...tap lens lightly while open...if that doesnt work try it again..... Just pisses me off sometimes. JT

Hi! Thanx for helping me feel asured that this failure easily could be fixed at home. I tried your way to fix the camera, to press the objektive while it was extending and to drop it to the floor several of times... this did not work. So for you that have tried this, but not succeed... there´s hope... 1. Open the camera by .."unscrewing" the small screws... hehe, excuse the language, i´m swedish... 2. Carefully pull the cover away from the inside part. You cannot take the front cover away totally, cause it is connected with the inside part with a wire... It´s the front side that is interesting though.... 3. Close to the objective (the round part) the is a little bow-shaped cover, whit two screws... Unscrew them and take the cover of... Inside you will find a bunch of very small geerwheels... Here is where the problem is... Try to spinn them gently, and blow and poke them a little... Then put the power on on the camera, and you will se them work there asses of... if they are all spinning, and the objektive is behaving normal again, the problem is solved... otherwise, try to help they function by poke them a little again, spinn them and push on the lens again.. 4. put the camera back to one piece... and voila!!! it´s working!!!! I hope this will work for you, it did for me... But be carefull so you don´t loose any parts... Cheers from Jenny, Västerås, Sweden.

Hi I also had the E:61:00 error in my SONY DSC-P71 I followed the instruction given in the forum. I did put the camera in Movie mode before switching it on and place the camer on the hard surface. Then i turned its power on then after doing several tries that Error is gone. Thanks to the forum, Martin

I believe this problem occurs when we use the zoom in/out and hold the pull button (w/t or -+) for some time after the zoom reaches its minimum/maximum. After this, the lens zoom system becomes locked and don't work... I've tried many options forcing the lens to not extend and applying wacks against the lens. The one that solved the problem for a few minutes was turning on the camera in movie mode and forcing the lens tube against my leg. Few minutes after the problem is back...I Hope after some attempts it wil be fixed...

I usually don't reply in these forums - but this time I just had to. I have an old Sony Handycam which I barely use anymore (model CCD-TR67), which is a "high-8" cam corder (I know, very outdated in this digital world... but it has a 64x optical zoom which is what I really need from time to time). Anyway, I was also getting the E:61:00 error, and stumbled across this thread. So, since I had nothing to lose, I used the side of my fist, and smacked the side of the camera (near the lens)... I did this about 4 times, in rapid succession. Turned the camera back on, and wallah!!! It's fixed!!! Thanks so much for posting the solution!

What can I say... I have a DSC-P200 which actually has worked like a charm for a few years. But then that dreaded message reared its head. I Googled it, fond the remedy, and dropped it onto an heirloom wooden chest. It's working great again. Thanks. Now, I'm going to try the same thing with my van that's been acting up lately.

Removing this error is quite easy, as you open the memory stick by pealing of the plastic mantle(which by the way you don't have to do) you can see that some certain clusters of the memory stick are jammed. Just take your memory stick and drop it from some reasonable height on to your desk and hopefully the error will dissappear...
