I have the same unit had same problem... I know nothing about electronics but a friend of mine fix the problem by slightly playing with a pontentiometer on the top of the cd player... He told me this is use to 'confirm' the player door is closed... I bought this in 2002... Fail on 2003, fixed on 2003, never failed again.
