LETS FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST SONY

Dec 2003 21:19PLEASE READ THISFor those out there trying to find what went wrong when your "Sony Trinitron TV" suddenly died, I believe I may be able to tell you what might happened. My Sony Trinitron TV is only two years old, and about three weeks ag

o "suddenly died." Called Sony and they did not have any idea of what might had caused such problem, so I was told to take it to a Sony Certyfied repair shop. When the repairman gave me a call with the diagnosis, I almost collapsed when I was told that the TV had a bad "FLYBACK" transformer and that it was going to cost me about $81 for the part and an additional $99.95 for labor. (The TV cost a little over $600 about two years ago) You Do The Math!! So, if your TV simply died while you were enjoying one of your favorite shows or movies, get ready for the ordeal (because Sony will not take responsibility for a part that was most likely defected from factory on the first place) and spend about $200 more for a TV that was already too expensive when was purchased.I also asked the technician what causes a flyback to stop working and he said that that seldom happens. He also said that sometimes these parts are installed on the "new TV board", but doesn't necessarily mean they are new as well! So, since I have found some discussion forums where many people seem to be having the same problems with these EXPENSIVE DEVICES (TVs), I will encourage you to keep in touch so we all "together" can file a complaint with the end of pushing Sony to take responsibility for these problems. I am a Computer Engineer and I know this incindents should not occur so quickly and so often. If many people are having the same problem, this means these parts were defected when they were installed on the board of these TVs.Together we can reach this goal. It has been done many times in the past with other products and companies!MY TV MODEL (KV24FV12)PS When you reply, refer to this message. My 60" TV MD#KF60WE610 was $3500 purchased 12/12/03 with Defected Optical Block: shows blogs of blue areas. Sony mailed out Confidential memorandum to the service dealer to fix under warranty only those who calls to complaint. By the way that wasn't for consumer to review. Sony post mfr defects on sony.com only, so if you are avg consumer don't check the mfr's website FIRST when Sony product with problem, you might be out of luck like me. It will cost $2,000 for repair the TV and Sony won't repair because I was out of luck by 2 month. They offered to EXCHANGE the TV, but don't let the word EXCHANGE

My 32 inch Sony Trinitron TV suddenly died today,as we were watching TV. This is very annoying indeed. From what I am reading here, the repair could be $200-$500 for a 12 year old TV.

I have had my trinitron for about 5 years (bought in 2001). I just went to turn it on and it just made a weak clicking sound and at the same time the standby timer light started blinking. Now I cannot get the TV to turn on and the standby timer light just blinks.I am not sure what to do next!

We got a KV-24FV300 about Chrismas 2002, and about four years later In late December 06' when we tried to turn it on the Timer/Standby/Sleep mode light started blinking. After a few tries, we were able to get it on, and after that, it just got progressively worse. It finally gave out around January, and we haven't been able to get it back on, only the blinking remains. During the whole thing, we weren't sure whether or not we had accidentally set a timer or were pressing a button from some lost remote. Before this, we had perfectly faithful service from it and never had any signs of problems. Suppose its time to get a new TV or get some new Hobbies, but if anyone was going to take serious action I would be glad to Sign a petition or make a formal complaint to Sony.

My kv-24fv12 sony trinitron just died after 5 years of faithful service. I took it into the repair shop, and the estimate is $200 to replace the "high voltage" section aka the flyback transformer everyone is talking about on here. I don't know what to do; the TV isn't worth that much anymore, I'd be better off using that money towards a new TV. Has anyone tried to perform the maintenance themselves? How much is a flyback transformer anyways? I've been looking into this problem for a few days now and it seems that lots of people have had problems with their Sony TVs not turning on. This is ridiculous, but since my TV is way past warranty, there's nothing I can do really.
