I have a JVC GR-D72US that is 5 months old and has been used less than 1 hour. Last week I used it in an indoor low-ambient sound setting for the first time and when I played back the recording noticed a loud annoying ticking sound. I replayed earlier recordings of an outdoor sporting event and determined that the sound was also present but masked by the loud ambient noise. I tried a new tape of the same brand and a new tape of a different brand (both high end tapes) and the sound remains. The sound can be heard , although not as loud, when the camera is recording, however, it apparently gets picked up by the mic and amplified. I did some research on th Internet and found some reports of excessive motor noise for this model. In most cases the cameras were returned and/or replaced. Unfortunately mine is too old (a whole 5 months) and, therefore, out of labor warranty. I spoke with JVC and they directed me to my local authorized service center. I spoke with the service center and was told to leave the camera and a $68.00 and they would get to it in about 3 weeks. Frankly, I was not very impressed with the local service operation and have little confidence in their ability to repair the camera for less than several hundred dollars. Any suggestions? Greg

I have a 15 month old JVC GR-D70US video recorder that has about 6 hours of time on it. Everything works as normal except the video captured is now permanently blank. It's almost like the shutter is stuck closed. I get the "Lens Cap" warning everytime I turn it on (in record mode) and a black screen in auto and manual mode. This was preceded by the video being red and choppy like in a low light environment for a few minutes. The display works fine for playing videos and all the other features seem fine. The zoom moves the lens and all the on screen displays work just no video is being recorded. BTW - the cap IS off. :) I have tried removing power and reseting the unit to original settings. I tried everything in the troubleshooting manual. This camcorded has been very seldom used and lives in a padded case in my house. It has never been exposed to the elements or dropped. I'm hesitant to pay a non-refundable $75 to have someone look at it because it seems like a dud. Can you advise as to whether this is a known problem and if I should pursue fixing it? Damon

    JVC GR-DV72u

George Hordoan Posted Dec 01, 2004

I have a JVC GR-DV72u camcorder that works well on USB. Recently I purchased a firewire card with 6 to 4 pins DV cable. I can command the camcorder with the software (play, rewind, forward, stop) but I have neither image nor sound on screen. I tried the plug-unplug trick of DV cable but nothing happened. I tried another firewire card but the same result. Only one day when I plugged the DV cable I was able to see the image on the screen and have sound but after I turned the camcorder off and started again I lost the image and of course the sound. This makes me think that the problem is the camcorder. Am I right? Thank you, George
