I also have the same symptoms with my JVC GR-SXM250U camcorder. I've had it for a year. No image on monitor or view finder. displays same (lens cap )message when powering up, records only audio, and playback of a previous recorded tape works fine. If anyone has the answer please advise.

    I have found out there is a class action lawsuit being started against JVC for failing to recall cameras with problems and failing to pay for repairs. Here is a name and email address of someone who may know more about it. Steven Berk at


    Same here, have GR-sxm20u that hasent had 2hours of tape recorded, no image, lens cap message blinks, focus indicators blink, records sound, plays back other tapes, and one year old, happened while unit was off. I made recording right after thanksgiving and all was ok but it didnt work on X-mas morning(grand daughters first x-mas, Kinda pissed). some sort of internal clock in side to make you spend repair mony right after warrenty expires?? Not a happy camper!!
