Sony Trinitron TVs

anonymous Posted Dec 31, 2004

"The Petition":

My family has a Sony Trinitron TV (Model Number KV-35V36) that was purchased in 1998. It too, like so many other of these TVs suddenly turned off and died. Over the years, we have bought many Sony products and have had little problems. However, this television "epidemic" is a major issue and one that must be dealt with and solved. Therefore, I propose this; ANYONE WHO HAS/HAD A PROBLEM WITH A SONY TRINITION TV, PLEASE POST YOUR NAME, MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBER ON THIS WEBSITE, WHERE I WILL PLACE THEM ON A PETITION TO BE E-MAILED/MAILED TO SONY. They might be able to ignore one of us, but they can't and WILL NOT ignore all of us. -Thank you

I also own a Sony Trinitron model KV 35V42 (made in September 1999 and purchased new in 2000). Today, the picture first reduced like an accordian leaving the bottom of the screen blank. A minute or two later, the picture was gone and didn't come back. However, the sound still worked fine. It's likely that I will have to purchase a new tv.

Trinitron KV-27S40 bought Oct. 1998, so it almost made it to the 10 year anniversary, better than some others on this thread. So many TV's with same issue....I too thought Sony was a quality brand and at the time I spent good $'s for it. Too bad this issue isn't written up anywhere, I went to consumers reports and saw nothing about it. I guess we just live in a throwaway society now...nothing lasts as long as it did in the "good old days"...

Our family purchased a Sony Trinitron 40XBR800 in 2003. Weare now experiencing the problem where the TV won't power on properly anymore. Too big to take to a repair shop and too expensive to repair. At least we got 5 yrs of use out of it. It cost $3000 new. We'll never buy a Sony again.

Our huge SONY TV allows the pix to stay on for no more than 3 minutes & then turns completely black... although, sound continues. We read the messages posted; Do we have any solutions yet? Thanks in advance!

Hello, I am also having a problem with my Sony Trinitron KV-35S42. The screen is black and there IS sound. Red light keeps flashing on the TV. If I bang on TV a few times it will work. TV was bought 1999.

My tv goes to standby mode everytime I turn it on. It takes at least half an hour "Warming up" everytime I turn it on, and then once its finally on, it cuts off randomly too. Just the picture, the sound is good the whole time. It's done this since about the 3rd week I've had it, and for 8 years now. Now I just acquired another one just like mine, which worked great for a few days and now is doing the exact same thing. wtf? When I get a new tv, it will definately not be a Sony.
