Sony Trinitron TVs

anonymous Posted Dec 31, 2004

"The Petition":

My family has a Sony Trinitron TV (Model Number KV-35V36) that was purchased in 1998. It too, like so many other of these TVs suddenly turned off and died. Over the years, we have bought many Sony products and have had little problems. However, this television "epidemic" is a major issue and one that must be dealt with and solved. Therefore, I propose this; ANYONE WHO HAS/HAD A PROBLEM WITH A SONY TRINITION TV, PLEASE POST YOUR NAME, MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBER ON THIS WEBSITE, WHERE I WILL PLACE THEM ON A PETITION TO BE E-MAILED/MAILED TO SONY. They might be able to ignore one of us, but they can't and WILL NOT ignore all of us. -Thank you

I never had any problems with any prior tvs. I have the same problem I can not get my tv to come on or any signs of life. I thought it might have been the kids pushing the button on and off.I have samsung tvs and have had no problems! I figured with sonys reputation I shouln't have any problems for at least ten years! No more sonys hello samsung!!

Model # KV-40-XBR800 This is a 52" big screen TV bought in DEC 2002 weights about 400lb. June of 2009 we had it repaired for $200, it would not turn on and had some code blinking. Then just three months later, when we were watching a movie it just shut off and would not come on. No code blinking this time, I'm sure it is going to cost another $200 to repair if we repair it. A new TV is sounding good right now, but when you pay well over $1000 for a TV it should last at least 10 years without needing repaired.

Sony Trinitron model number KV-35V36, serial number 9045400 manufactured January 1998 died September 19, 2009. TV was working fine and just turned off suddenly, went from full screen to small dot in the middle. No power light on front of set, so assume something blown in power supply. Not sure whether it's worth repairing as will take a lot of physical effort to get to a repair shop and technician callout cost likely to be too high a price to be justifiable.

I have a Sony Trinitron KV-36XBRO250 purchased in Dec 1999 it has been a great TV a few months ago the picture started blinking in and out but the sound stats on it is like watching a movie throughes a strobe light. I would like to try to get it fixed if some one knows what the problem is. If I have to but a new tv it will not be sony. I think Sony should beredponsible for the tvs we have purchased and now we can not use them. Sony should be the ones paying to get them repaired.

MY 32" WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON AFTER THE PICTURE WENT OUT UNEXPECTEDLY DURING A VERY IMPORTANT TELEVISION EVENT. UP UNTIL THIS EVENT I BOUGHT SONY PRODUCTS EVERY TIME I NEEDED ELECTRONICS. IF THIS DOES NOT GET RESOLVED I WILL BE PURCHASING FROM OTHER COMPANIES.

I have 2 Sony KV35S40 TV's with the same problem, when powered up I hear a relay click then the red standby light blinks at about 1 second intervals. I have replaced the power supply board and the main mother board with known good boards but did not fix the problem. I suspect the CRT could be bad, but both TV's having bad picture tube at the same time is very unlikely. I read an article online that mentioned IC 301 called the Jungle chip could be the problem in both TV's. I would like to try to fix the problem, but that chip is very expensive. I have a friend who owns a TV repair shop and he said in the last 10 years he has had more Sony TV's with bad CRT's than he has seen in a long time. Sony needs to address this problem of reliability on their TV's. I also have a Sony Trinitron 27" that I have been watching for 20 years and never had a problem with it. If anyone ever figures out how to fix the problem on these KV35S40 TV's please email the me with the correct fix for the problem. Thank you Respectfully, Randall Stamps
