Sony Trinitron TVs

"The Petition":

My family has a Sony Trinitron TV (Model Number KV-35V36) that was purchased in 1998. It too, like so many other of these TVs suddenly turned off and died. Over the years, we have bought many Sony products and have had little problems. However, this television "epidemic" is a major issue and one that must be dealt with and solved. Therefore, I propose this; ANYONE WHO HAS/HAD A PROBLEM WITH A SONY TRINITION TV, PLEASE POST YOUR NAME, MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBER ON THIS WEBSITE, WHERE I WILL PLACE THEM ON A PETITION TO BE E-MAILED/MAILED TO SONY. They might be able to ignore one of us, but they can't and WILL NOT ignore all of us.
-Thank you

The hairdryer trick really works!!! It's worth a try. We have a KV-40XBR800 that had trouble turning on for a couple of weeks, then wouldn't turn on at all. We only got clicks and 6 blinks. After using the hairdryer on each side for 5 minutes each, the tv turned on and the picture is better than ever. Probably need to do it every six months as a preventative. Good Luck. We just saved $200+.

Can you tell me what the "hair dryer trick" is? I have the Sony 40 inch as well.

Add my Sony Trinitron KV-27S15 to your list. Sony, am considering spending up to $2,000 for a big HD TV. Don't your company want to be considered?

I owned an Hitachi TV for 20 years, never had a problem. Wanted a larger TV with a flat screen, so I bought a 27" Sony KV-27FV310 (Serial #4038002)in 2005. Several months ago, we started having the same problem. The only way to turn on the TV was to turn it on and off rapidly, sometimes for an hour or more. Now it won't come on anymore. I agree with everyone -- this is definitely a problem that Sony needs to fix and I will never buy another Sony.

I owned an Hitachi TV for years without any problems. When I decided to buy a flat screen, I went with the Sony 27" KV-27FV310. Several months ago, it shut off and the only way to get it to come on was to turn it on and off rapidly for an hour or more. Now it won't come on anymore. Sony needs to fix this problem. I definitely won't buy another Sony if they don't step up to the plate.

SONY KV-29LS60B Trinitron, bought in 2002, went off (14 blinks - some M-board block to be replaced) WEEK AFTER the end of warranty period. The new block (with a cost of half of the new TV price) went off(again the same 14 blinks) FEW WEEKS AFTER it's warranty period (6 months). Repair center refused to try to repair anything, just suggested to install again new block, again the half TV price. After my refusal, just by accident I've turned TV on and from that day it was working for few months. Later it again went dead(again 14 blinks). Being left unused for 2 years, time by time it was working for few hours and only currently it again pretends to be broken almost all the time - 14 blinks means that the M-board must be changed. Here only authorized SONY repair center can do that but they say it will take a lot of time and more than half of new (LG) TV price and instead are suggesting to buy new, not SONY, TV.

Honours to SONY engineers(to design the electronics to stop working immediately after warranty)! Shame on SONY services in Lithuania not being able to use such "advantages" of SONY...

I have a Sony FD Trinitron model KD-30XS955 that was purchased on 12/23/04. I began having problems with it not turning on in Jan. 2009. I called Sony and was directed to follow certain steps, including unplugging and replugging it. That worked a few times until Nov. 12. After calling Sony again they said it needs to be repaired. The phone estimate is from $150-400. It blinks 6 times, stops for 2 seconds, then blinks 6 times, continuously. When I try to turn it off, I have to keep clicking the power button until it hits the sequence just right before it will turn off. I will never buy another Sony TV. I'm giving this one away and purchasing a new TV (different brand) because it's not worth fixing.

We have a sony triniton model Kv32fs10, just would not turn on one day without any warning. Extremely disappointing and we will not purchase a sony tv again. Hey Sony... are you catching any of this?

All you folks are lucky, our 35HS510 crapped out 2 years into ownership..
Same 6-7 blinky light routine, now we've had a 1600$, 200# boat anchor with a pretty red blinking LED in our living room for the last 3 years plus (too heavy too move without teamsters around) freaking awesome, No Mas Sony Por Su...
but it looks so pretty blinking away all night, will try Blow Dryer routine just for the hell of it...
If that doesn't work maybe flamethrower will...

I have a sony triniton wega xbr model #KV-36XBR250. the issue I have is that the first time the T.V. is turned on the LED blinks 15 times and the screen blinks black then shows a picture for about 13 times then everything works fine. Not sure what to do the was purchased in 1999. So I guess I cant complain I got 10 year out of it. Just hate to let it go it been a great T.V.
