  Hello Chris,
  
  I wound up going to Wal-Mart in a last ditch effort to fix this thing. I bought 1 can of canned air and a cd cleaner which was basically a CD with some tiny brushes glued on the surface.
  
  I started by using the air can to spray all around inside the CD compartment hoping to dislodge any dirt that might be in there. I then used the cd cleaner. I think I may have had to use it twice.
  
  But, after all that, it started working! Hope that works for you!

    Thanks for your advice, I'll go try that now. I just found the manual for the receiver online and it indicates that E-04 is a dirty disk or upside down disc error. Thanks again.
