Re[2]: SONY ORIGINAL PARTS

I replaced the whole laser pickup. I found it for a pretty good price here:

http://www.electronix.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?ELECTRONIX_CATALOG_SESSID=9f73bd21c5b7559d9610bff9df261fc3&keywords=khm-240aaa&x=0&y=0

Now it spins just fine. The only problem is that I think I damaged the gold colored ribbon cable so after a few seconds I get an error saying that there is no disk. I can't find a part number on the damaged cable. Some luck.

    Eric,
I initially had the "no disk" error: make sure the top (white) plastic is also spinning...usually a light touch will realign it. I had the "no disk" problem first, NOW the disks have stopped spinning entirely, and I'm looking for a replacement drive. Thanks for the link!

    Eric,
OK, my last reply was ignorant. There is a solder short on the top side of the circuit board that needs to be removed. Remove it and the DVD player will stop saying 'no disc'.

I have a DVP-n600 with the dreaded "no disc" error that just started to occur, player reads dvd's but not cd or cd-r. Think it's the same solder short you mentioned? if so, can you tell my how to find it; if not any other thoughts? Thanks for any help you can give. Dan

I purchased the replacement part for the Sony CD/DVD Player, somehow I was still getting a Insert Disk Error, I compared the two part replacements and find out that the Spin Motor was the correct part, but the laser beam module was not. Since my DVD Laser was still operational, I swapped out the spin motor only. I got it to work perfectly.
