Sony Vaio PCG-V505BX

V505BX POWERLESS! ...PLEASE HELP

Hello, Hoping everyone out there is well when reading this. Well here it goes... One day I went to go power on my laptop and NOTHING... tried swapping batteries, with myself and friends with the same series, and nothing. Tried Power supply connected to laptop with and without battery & nothing. Its just dead. Previously when the unit was working I was an extrememly heavy user. Laptop worked for days straight at a time, but I figure its fairly new. How could it just not have enough anymore. BASICALLY, I am trying to find the best advice here. A friend of mine says it looks like the motherboard. Laptoponcall.com says it's most likely the CMOS chip... I am wondering which way to go... The laptop is about a yr and a half old... ANY ADVICE PLEASE? I'm in the Ny/Nj Metro Area

It's to do with the system battery that lives underneath the keyboard. Take the keybiard out just disconnect the battery for 1 min plug back in and away you go ! Let me know if that fixes it for you. REgards

Hello, I have been working on these Vaio laptops as a hobby for a few years now. Some of the older models will do nothing when the CMOS battery becomes old and will not hold a charge. Usually you can recharge the battery using a RC Toy Battery Charger or something like that. Careful, cuz they get hot and the green plastic will melt. Just cover again with black electric tape. Also, try cooling and heating the laptop. This creates contraction and expansion of the boards and connections. In the event there is some contact issuses from moisture over time. Place in a plastic bag and in to the frig for 30-60 minutes. For heating, preheat the oven to 125 F then turn it off. Place a rack mid way in the oven. Put the laptop in upside dowm on a cloth pot holder on the rack for about 10 min. Remove and let cool. Then try to start it up. Sounds crazy, but so does sending an old laptop in for repair and paying as much as a new one is crazy too.

I have the same problem with my sony vaio pcg v505bx. My system suddenly crashed and did not even let me in even on safe mode. some registry file error used to come up on a blue screen for a few seconds and reboot and would just go in loop. Then one of my friend used his dell recovery CD to format my system and re installed XP Home SP2 edition. It was working fine until the next morning when i tried to start it, it was dead. I have yet to try and follow up on Jati

hi, I have the same exact problem with the same model, also after heavy use. I've unscrewed the keyboard, but I can't find the CMOS battery underneath, is it the small green battery that looks a litle bit like a capacitor, or is it somewhere else?

Hi there. I also have the same model with the same issue. Because I purchased an extended warranty, it was covered the 1st time it happened. They re-set the CMOS. Then it happened again & because it was the same issue, they took it for repair again & this time replaced the motherboard. That was in Sept 2005. Two days ago, I went to turn it on and NOTHING. I took it to a local shop & they think it's the motherboard. I will most likely purchase a new laptop as the MB with installation will cost me near $1000!

I'd be very careful before sending another computer to Laptoponcall. I sent mine to them for repair in Jan05, $450 later it still doesnot work and now they refuse to do anymore repairs. After delaying me severals times and sending it to me with out any repairs being completed, it suddenly becomes unrepaireable and I'm out $450. Just be very creful these people are on the verge of being totally illegal.

I bought the exact same model in Nov. 2003 and it died on me about a week ago (May, 2005). I had the exact same problem -- I used it pretty heavily. Just before it died, I used it for maybe 15 minutes to check email and then turned it off. After that, it refused to turn on. No sounds, fan noise, beeps, lights -- nothing. I sent my laptop in for repair, and judging from the estimated cost, either the CUP or motherboard died (which doesn't make sense since it was working fine and shut down without problems).
