Re[5]: SONY KP46V15 has concaved sides and color distortion

gary ridenour Posted Sep 17, 2005, in response to:Tom

tom: you said: "would you repair this 12 year old set or would you trash it and buy a new one?". sounds like you talked yourself out of it........ trash it. i never likeed tube projo's anyway. and i never owned one. those little 8" tubes cost a fortune and hours of convergence time if they every go bad. if you have no skill level here best to leave it be. you are working around very dangerous voltage/current. there is no "life time" here. ive seen em bad, brand new right outta the factory box. ive had customers bring in 15-20 year olds and never been touched. consider this. picture tubes are just about history. now they make LCD and Plasma. much better technology. and more reliable. less wear and tear. add to it this: high definition television (HDTV) is here. and the broadcast industry will be making this change over in a few years. your current TV will have to have a converter box on it to display this new format. luck...Gary ps: im retired to. from sony electronics............lol

To the contrary Gary....I might go ahead and have the technician try to give it one more life. However if I do decide to buy a new projection TV (I can't afford LCD or plasma just yet), which brand names do you recommend? Your input to this question would benefit me tremendously and I would appreciate it so much. Thanks for the great advice.
