Re[3]: Convergence problem with JVC AV-48WP74 tv

Mike Posted Sep 18, 2006, in response to:Sri

Okay, so, I replaced the STK392-110 chips, and the problem is not gone. Any other suggestions?

We have the same unit and the same problem. Our chips have been replaced but the issue still exists. Jvc Canada did tell us that to lock the convergence after installing a new chip you must be in service mode. To do this: On remote....slide the button that says TV/VCR to TV Press the sleep timer once Press the display and video buttons together This will put you into service mode. A menu will appear on the screen, and you will select #7 by pushing the 7.This is convergence B. Reset your lines manually, when this is done then press the mute button once. This step is supposed to lock it into memory. Then press the back button and you are out of the service mode. Good luck. Even with this mine is still not working and I won't spend money on JVC products ever again

Did you replace the associated resistor(s)? My convergence issue and fix was the same as someone else who posted: It wasn't the IC but the 2.2 ohm power resistor that feeds the IC. 50 cents at Frys, and two wires to solder. Look at the resisters feeding your ICs. See if any look discolored in relation to the others. The resistors on mine were supposed to be tan or grey depending on the resistor. One of the grey 2.2 ohm resistors had a browned/darkened center section. Unsolder it to verify it's dead with an ohm-meter. Make sure you buyt a POWER resistor, not just a regular resistor. I bought a 5 watt- ceramic encased- 5%- 2.2 ohm (NOT 2.2k ohm).
