E-03 is a warning that the cassette take up spindle is not turning properly and that the mechanism is shutting down to save possible tape damage. About the only thing you can do is to try another cassette, as in most cases thats the problem, however if it isn't, then its a case separation job for investigation purposes. By the way do not use TDK or Maxell tapes with JVC camcorders, as by common repute they can eventually be the cause all sorts of problems, keep to JVC - Panasonic or Fuji branded tapes, as people that have used these brands right from the start very seldom ever experience these type of problems.
