Thank you for the excellent advise, I can confirm this worked perfectly with a CCD-TR780E camcorder. The relief I felt when the mechanism started ejecting the tape was hard to describe. That's the advantage of being so far down the mental foodchain, there's always lots of people who can offer advice.

  This advise worked very nicely for me.
  I started to remove the screws from my camcorder to get to the stuck tape.
