JVC GR - DVL300

E04 Unit in safeguard mode : Remove and Reattach Battery

I have had this same problem since my warranty ran out on my JVC DV camcorder. When I turn it on to record or play, a code appears on the display screen "E04 Remove and reattach battery. Unit in safegaurd mode." I have tried to remove the battery and replace it and I have the head cleaned. Twice I have brought it in for repairs but over time the same thing comes up. Can any one tell me what causes this and how to rectify it.

Hi; just found this forum.. so let me explain what this E4 problem is all about. I'll try to answer all major problems: 1. E4 is not depending on the type of tape 2. There is a electric wire like a tape with a lot of wires; this tape is transparent and it is the electric connection to the rotative head. because of turning on and off the camera lots of times the end of this "tape" truyes to jump out of the connector. This happenes also at camcorders wich have been a lot in the sun. 3. How to solv the problem: You have to hiold the camcorder in your right hand amd with the left hand you have to press quite hard with your fingers placed on the part where the LCD meets the body. This will bring the "tapes" connector back in the regular position and it is the only way to fix the problem for good without opening the device. I hope many of you will solv their problems with my help!

I have had this same problem in the recent past and found that I was able to reset it, after playing with some settings I discovered my toes on the screen and thought I had fixed the problem! The next time I turned on my unit the same thing happened, unfortunately I was not able to reset it as of yet. I f I am able to do so I will send you a method . Although if you find the method first I would much appreciate the help! Darren

I have a JVC GR-DLV310U and have gotten this error message many times. I have found the only thing that works is beating the camera out of frustration. My kid's hockey game in the third period is when the @&*$#*#%^#% thing acts up usually. I've actually broken the LCD screen when I slammed it shut too hard out of frustration. Oh, also, the eyepiece didn't work due to the little ribbon wire connection which I got fixed after one year (under warranty). The wire breaks from moving the eyepiece up and down. Well shortly after I'd gotten it fixed under warranty, it broke again. So, overall, I would say this cam which I paid over $1000 for is a piece of crap. It still works intermittently, but I use it mainly as a doorstop...it just isn't worth fixing. My Sony works pretty good...bought it on EBay for $60...Hi8.

Add me to the list ... bang the camera a few times with your hand ... it hurts but it works ... incredible. I think I'll go into business repairing JVC cameras now, the only expense will be bandages and bruise ointment! Mine is a different model, a GR-D73EK, but the cure appears to be the same. PS: I have an earlier model too - a GR-DVL167EK - which has been stuck in that stupid "safeguard mode" for a year now (which is why I had to buy the new one). Sadly, despite giving it a severe beating from every conceivable angle, this *remains* stuck ... has no-one in the world managed to get JVC to publish a proper cure? Hmmmm ... maybe a rubber mallet will work - on the camera I mean, not JVC (actually that might not be such a bad idea).

I've been given a GR-DVL-367EK camcorder which is completely inactive except for error code E04. Cassette has been removed but the cassette holder doesn't open. Heard there is a software fix for this problem - does anybody know where I can find it?

Press eject..put a rock in it and close it...but not too hard...it pops it right out of safeguard
