JVC GR - DVL300

E04 Unit in safeguard mode : Remove and Reattach Battery

I have had this same problem since my warranty ran out on my JVC DV camcorder. When I turn it on to record or play, a code appears on the display screen "E04 Remove and reattach battery. Unit in safegaurd mode." I have tried to remove the battery and replace it and I have the head cleaned. Twice I have brought it in for repairs but over time the same thing comes up. Can any one tell me what causes this and how to rectify it.

I'm so pissed off at my JVC GR-DVL300!! I make movies for school and if it's not the "head needs cleaning" message it's the "power safeguard" message. I hate telling my actors to wait while I fix a little "problem" and I think that we all now know that Canon is the way to go.

I had the same problem with an Eo4 error. With the tape removed, I tapped the tape cover several times with my knuckle and then reloaded the tape. It worked!!! I wonder what is loose in the camera. Please, if anybody finds out, please post.

Wow what a revalation...I had been sailing along with no problems what so ever with my DVL300 and then boom ....the dreded reattach battery message. I am so glad i check here because its working now. I first had the "cleaning Tape" error and then it went away the the "battery error" showed up. I was plenty pissed especially for those of you taping family etc. that those memories will be lost forever. I did fix mine by the tap on the side method and blow it out method. So far its ok. I do hate a piece of equipment that you cant trust and can fix it by tapping on it. Best of luck with yours George

Hi, I have a DVL300 and want to buy a new camcorder. Which recently released camcorders from JVC are superior to this one? and inferior? Thanks in advance! Gus

Same thing...started it up around April 12, 2004 and E03 -- re-attaching the battery doesn't do anything. This is a bit odd that everyone is experiencing the same problem at the same time. That hardly seems like a hardware issue to me -- seems more like something in the embedded software, but who knows. Possibly JVC?

Funny, I've started having the problem with a GR-DVL150, started yesterday 16 April 2004. Hardly used the camera, always new cassettes.
