JVC GR - DVL300

E04 Unit in safeguard mode : Remove and Reattach Battery

I have had this same problem since my warranty ran out on my JVC DV camcorder. When I turn it on to record or play, a code appears on the display screen "E04 Remove and reattach battery. Unit in safegaurd mode." I have tried to remove the battery and replace it and I have the head cleaned. Twice I have brought it in for repairs but over time the same thing comes up. Can any one tell me what causes this and how to rectify it.

I am from Egypt, I bought my dvl 300 from Japan in 2000, but I rarely used it until this year when after couple of days of use, it stopped and gave me the famous message "E04 Remove and reattach battery. Unit in safeguard mode.", I took it to the terrible local service agent, they charged me around 80 US$ and it stayed with them for two weeks and worked only for two days and then the same message appeared. I took it again to the agent and it stayed there since then (May 04), they are claiming that the “drum” needs to be changed and because they don’t have it in stock they made an order to import it from Japan, and I am still waiting since last May for the part to arrive!!

Passing through this terrible experience, I decided to purchase Sony video cam although price is higher the quality and service is much better.

I´m having the E04 problem. The model is dvl100. The camera is out of guaranty. I´ve contacted JVC and theys said the repair costs about 300 Euros. I´ve already solved the problem. The problem exists every time i insert the tape. So in the exact moment the tape is entering i press it harder (to force the enterance), and the strange noise that i heard before the error message desapear, just like the error message. It´s a "foce solution" but it´s better then to pay 300 Euros.

I have a Dl-300 which I bought in 2000 and have the EO4 Saftey Mode problem, but it happens even when I have it plugged in. Also, the sound went on it, and so did the white balance. And I only use it sporadically. What a piece of junk! I here there is a class action lawsuit against JVC, and I want in.

I also received the "E04 Remove and reattach battery. Unit in safeguard mode". After reading through the various postings on this site, I decided to carefully yet thoroughly clean the drum. I used the higher concentration (antimicrobial) isopropyl alchohol 91% which I purchased at the local CVS pharmacy. I shuttled the drum between two Q-tips that had been dipped in the alcohol. I then repeated the process with two additional dry Q-tips. Lastly, I very gently touched the dry Q-tip against the spinning drum. (The drum spins when you close or open the mechanism as though you were inserting or removing a tape.) Success! The camera seems to be working normally, at least for the past 4 minutes. I will now try to find whether there is any validity to the statement in other postings that the JVC tapes are different than the others. If there is some difference in the substrate, then I will pay the extra price for the JVC tapes in the future. I am a bit paranoid about damaging the camera, so I was very careful not to drip alchohol into the electronics. I was also very careful not to slow down the spinning drum with the Q-tip. Proceed at your own risk.

Hey, I am watching the same problem in my JVC GR-DVM90.Actually the problem is that previously it was saying the same problem like reattach the battery and E04 kind error. But now from few days when I open my Cover to enter an Mini Dv or a head cleaner in it it open as normal but when i put the cassatte in it , it did not go in , and when when i remove the cassatte in it and press the side it normally goes back, can you please thell me the solution to set my device, actually there is no JVC service center in my country. Can you tell me that where is this drum situated and can you eloborate the procedure to dip in alcohal and make it clear and if it is easy to send me the procedure in mov or clips or snapshots. And if all abouve is not possible you can gv me the addresses( URL ) to where you get the informations. Pleasee Regards Asim User of JVC GR-DVM90 ( Mini DV type )

I am also having the EO4 error. I did open the cassette holder and view display, removed the battery and spanked the camcorder. After installing the battery the camera started working again.

I had the same issue with the camera going into safeguard mode. I took the bettery off and whacked it a few times over the speaker and it works fine now.
