JVC GR - DVL300

E04 Unit in safeguard mode : Remove and Reattach Battery

I have had this same problem since my warranty ran out on my JVC DV camcorder. When I turn it on to record or play, a code appears on the display screen "E04 Remove and reattach battery. Unit in safegaurd mode." I have tried to remove the battery and replace it and I have the head cleaned. Twice I have brought it in for repairs but over time the same thing comes up. Can any one tell me what causes this and how to rectify it.

there are some great tips on this forum. I used to get the e04 code but have switched from TDK tapes to JVC and I never had the problem again. HAS ANYONE HAD THE E04 CODE WITH A JVC TAPE??

We have a Gr-D30 and it constantly tells me I have the lens cap on and I don't. SO it will not record any picture, it is always black. We have tried everything. They of course want us to send it in, and send in $ but this has made us miss our brnad new house being built, or son's 2 yrs b-day party, etc. I'm really sick of this, and it only has abour 3 3.5 hrs on it tops.

Im starting to see a trend here with JVC GR cameras. I myself use my camera in a housing and too many times it has shown the E03 and E04 errors. I also use JVC brand cassettes and i still have the same problems.. I have also had my camera serviced and the same problem still occurs. Head cleaning seemed to work for a while as did removing the battery for an extended period of time but the problem cropped up again tonight. I am wondering if there is an expert out there who does not work for JVC to ensure an unbiased opinion on how to fix this problem. Many thanks

I have a JVC GR-DVF-21 and am having this same problem of an E04 error message. Did anyone figure out what causes this?

Hi Guys E06 is a capstan error message, that mechanism is super sensitive, but a good one and can be repaired pretty reasonably. Let me know through email if you need anything. Rex

Got this E01 Unit in safeguard mode error on my DVL355; with the mechanism locked half-way. Removing the battery did not work so I could not get my tape out and was not able to close the lid. I tried for an hour to get it to close again. Then, I followed the advice on this site and hit the camera (once, with the knuckle of my finger) next to the speaker immediately after I reattached the battery. Worked like a charm! (and for JVC product development/service: BOOOOH)

OMG Hittin it a few times in the front speaker really does get rid of the E04 error on the screen and now it play back tapes again. Go figure.

JVC GR-DVL9800. Same Problem E04 "Unit in safeguard mode" "remove and reattach battery". Ejected the cassette and just when it was about to eject, pushed it in... and the error is gone. Thanks!!
