Upon inserting a tape the machine makes an unusual whirring sound and error message E04 comes up. Prior to this I sometimes found the playback image would be in part colour pixellated with part of the image as a still image with the rest of the picture playing normally but obscured in part by the pixellation and still image.

  I have a JVC GR-DVF31U digital camcorder and I had received E04 errors several times and have heard some noises and experienced pixelation. I was wondering if cleaning the heads could help this, but I would expect things to get continuously worse instead of being intermittent. Recently I lost the picture, so I need to decide whether to fix this camera or try to buy a new one. If you have further information on your problem, I would appreciate hearing about it.

    I explored the cost of repair and it just wasn't woth it so saved up and bought a Sony DCR PC350E with which I am very happy. Sorry not to be of more help.

      Thank you for your reply. My gut feel was that it would be better to buy something new, but I thought I would try to see if there was a quick fix for the problem. Thanks again.
