Sony Trinitron TVs

anonymous Posted Dec 31, 2004

"The Petition":

My family has a Sony Trinitron TV (Model Number KV-35V36) that was purchased in 1998. It too, like so many other of these TVs suddenly turned off and died. Over the years, we have bought many Sony products and have had little problems. However, this television "epidemic" is a major issue and one that must be dealt with and solved. Therefore, I propose this; ANYONE WHO HAS/HAD A PROBLEM WITH A SONY TRINITION TV, PLEASE POST YOUR NAME, MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBER ON THIS WEBSITE, WHERE I WILL PLACE THEM ON A PETITION TO BE E-MAILED/MAILED TO SONY. They might be able to ignore one of us, but they can't and WILL NOT ignore all of us. -Thank you

I don't know if you have mailed the petition or not, but here's my info. Model # 902563 I have the same problem. Acts like it's going to power up, then doesn't. Red power LED blinks seven times. Sony used to be a product that I was proud to own.

Thank you for this website! These problems are the same or similar to ours. The TV is a Trinitron KV-27526 manufactured in July 1997 and has worked perfectly til last night when it decided to turn the picture off and play like a radio with the standby power light blinking away. I agree this sounds like a general defect that should have resulted in a recall. Again, thanks, now we know it probably isn't worth trying to fix.

On December 3 2003, we purchased a Sony Model #KV32HS510, SN 8054553 32" screen from Best Buy for $1,099.00. This television weighs more than a Sherman tank but it produced a beautiful picture until a couple of days ago when it quit on me. The standby light flashes 7 times and the set refuses to turn on. I checked the Sony codes on the internet and the 7 blinks have something to do with regulating the voltage. I phoned a couple of repair shops in the area and explained the problem, and was quoted between $200 to $400 to repair. The last TV we had was an RCA 27" well over 20 years old and was still in excellent operating condition when we gave it away. I'm very disappointed with the Sony quality and will not be purchasing this brand ever again.

I also have a sony KV-32S40 and it's experiencing the same blinking problem with the screen. What a shame, thought Sony's were good TV's In reading these posts, I have changed my mind. I will try and solder the connection on the V-hold (never liked working on TV's with 20kV on the picture tube). I even went to sony's web site and nothing on a very well known problem. Shame on you Sony. Here's the pedigree if it matter's: Model KV-32S40 Ser. Number 8056408

The Sony TV Trintron KV-27FS100 ser.#4165190 that I purchased spring of 2003 did not start last night. The standby/timer red light was flashing in 5-times intervals. Sony web support to remedy the problem, unpligging the power cord & reseting the TV, did not work. I had a sony digital camera that broke after a year or so of use. I will NOT BUY SONY again.

I bought my SONY KV-AR34M86 (S/N: 2000244) in year end 2003. Its color turned to pinkish about 8 months ago. I brougth to Sony Service Center and they said they need to replace the picture tube to make it work. Guess what? The Picture Tube price is as much as the price of a new model of 42-inch LCD TV!!! So, count me in!!! SOny?? never again!!!!
