I have a Sony VCR showing error code: 3L 11 AC

This is intermittent. Usually when you first turn it on it works fine. It shuts down and shows the code usually when you are changing functions - you just rewound and hit play, for example. If you turn it on and start playing or recording, it runs fine until you stop it. Also, once the code is on, the only way to get rid of it is to leave the deck off for a considerable time period.

Any suggestions?

  Dave did you find out what this is? I've been having the same issue for awhile now and it's quite annoying as I still use my SONY VCR regularly.
  
  I also sometimes get a second code. But it's the same thing- Only after I'm in forward or rewind mode, then when I hit play, it freezes up.

    Jeff, Sorry to inform you I was unsuccessful in finding an answer. I have let the machine sit idle with this problem, resigned to the fact I'll have to take it to a service technician. Just hadn't had much need, but was planning to take it in sometime this month. If you discover anything helpful in the next few weeks, let me know.
