Quick update:

I fixed the camera myself as follows:

1. Hold camera firmly in left hand
2. Smartly rap front of camera with knuckles of right hand on the "Cyber-shot" logo.

It worked, now the LCD is working again for free.

Guess I don't need to pay Sony $111.00 for repair service.

  Bob-Thanks so much! I was so worried I would have to pay the $100+ to fix it, but the knuckle tap actually worked! Goes to show no matter how advanced we get you can still hit something to make it work!

    Hi James: You are certainly Welcome! This is exactly the reason I'm giving away my Quick Fix for free. No one should have to pay for getting a defective piece of equipment fixed. Many thanks to Pechorin's for providing this forum and the nice folks at Google for picking up this thread. While I certainly do not advocate anyone physically abuse any delicate electronic equipment, the knuckle rap on the "Cyberlogo" has fixed more defective Sony DSC-S40s with the white/blank LCD screen problem than you can shake a stick at.   THANK YOU WHOLE BIG BUNCHES MR. ALLEN! ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! I just posted to another forum that had a different Sony Digital Model doing same problems. I posted my model to see if anyone else had a similar problem. THEN I happened on your posting "and remedy"! IT WORKED ...MY CAMERA IS WORKING! Gift from Hubby...only had 1yr + 4mon...screen was going bizzard with lines and void of colors..yet pictures turned out. Yesterday screen went totally white. NOW IT WORKS! WAY COOL! THANK YOU ...THANK YOU...AND I DO THANK THE LORD TOO that I didn't have to send it to SONY! GOD BLESS! YOU PROBABLY HAVE NO IDEA AS TO PERHAPS THE THOUSANDS OF FRUSTRATED SHUTTERBUGS HE JUST USED YOU TO HELP. MAY HE BLESS YOU BACK A HUNDRED-FOLD AND IN A UNIQUE WAY!

      In further response to your statement "Now get out there and take them pics."....Already did the moment my camera was fixed. My cat Uktena [Cherokee for "Keen Sighted"] was asleep in the sun on my desk...I called her name and got the most precious look from her. Haven't learned to download from camera to computer yet...uh...think I already packed my camera box, Software, accessories, and booklet. We're trying to sell our house to move from FL to Alabama. My Hubby bought me the camera when we were in Alabama over a year ago, already looking at some homes. I kept buying like 2-3 disposable cameras....He surprised me with the digital on one trip up right after Christmas 2005. Thanks!

    Hello oh good people. Its nice seeing people proviode help out of kindness. I was looking on the web to see if anyone else has had the sony white screen problem and long behold 100s of ppl are having the same problem. I see lotsa people know how to fix it. Could someone please tell me how to get the LCD back in working condition? The screen tapping didnt work for me. The screen is on when I turn the camnera on but it lasts for only 2 secs and goes white. i REALLY appreciate all your help and respect your time. Karlo

  My DSC S40 got the `white screen` last year while in Venice, that time it came back on again after downloading the pictures. This week it happened again but I couldn't sort it out so I was delighted to come across this remedy which worked instantly and has saved me the cost of a new camera. Apart from this fault this is a first class basic camera.

  I am truly happy to found this forum and most importantly - your quik fix! i've had this camera for over 2 years now and sad that this would be the end. the shop asked me to buy a new camera instead, i mean no offence to the new cameras but this S40 has gone thru hell with me man. just gotta luv~ it.
