JVC GR - DVL300

E04 Unit in safeguard mode : Remove and Reattach Battery

I have had this same problem since my warranty ran out on my JVC DV camcorder. When I turn it on to record or play, a code appears on the display screen "E04 Remove and reattach battery. Unit in safegaurd mode." I have tried to remove the battery and replace it and I have the head cleaned. Twice I have brought it in for repairs but over time the same thing comes up. Can any one tell me what causes this and how to rectify it.

I got a problem with jvc grdx97us . There is no image showing at all in lcd monitor and viewer for no reason when I turned it on the other day, even although I haven't record it for more than 10 hours since I bought it 13 months ago. Everything else works fine.Anybody got the same problem?

We have a Gr-D30 and it constantly tells me I have the lens cap on and I don't. SO it will not record any picture, it is always black. We have tried everything. They of course want us to send it in, and send in $ but this has made us miss our brnad new house being built, or son's 2 yrs b-day party, etc. I'm really sick of this, and it only has abour 3 3.5 hrs on it tops.

JVC is fixing "Lens Cap" error for free for certain models. Go to JVC.com > Service & Support. on the left side of the page you will see "Customer Notification". Click on that and read all the info. Make sure your model is part of the covered models. I think it is. HOpe this helps.

Add me to the list ... bang the camera a few times with your hand ... it hurts but it works ... incredible. I think I'll go into business repairing JVC cameras now, the only expense will be bandages and bruise ointment!

Mine is a different model, a GR-D73EK, but the cure appears to be the same.

PS: I have an earlier model too - a GR-DVL167EK - which has been stuck in that stupid "safeguard mode" for a year now (which is why I had to buy the new one). Sadly, despite giving it a severe beating from every conceivable angle, this *remains* stuck ... has no-one in the world managed to get JVC to publish a proper cure? Hmmmm ... maybe a rubber mallet will work - on the camera I mean, not JVC (actually that might not be such a bad idea).

I have a JVC GR-DVL505U and the famous E04 has come up. Guess what the warrenty has expired. I went to Best Buy and they had no clue. I was ready to buy another camera (NOT JVC). I thought maybe there is something on-line about this defect. I searched and found a lot people with the same problem. Here is what has worked for me. Squeeze the sides where the tape goes, just a bit and insert the tape it work for me and I hope it will last. Hope this helps. Just one last note, thanks to all who help others without you I would have bought a new camera. Johnny

I have this same camera and low and behold...the same E04 problem, after reading the comments, I turned off the camera and smacked the side twice. I turned on the camera, and the problem vanished, it works fine. Thanks!!!
