E04 Unit in safeguard mode : Remove and Reattach Battery
I have had this same problem since my warranty ran out on my JVC DV camcorder. When I turn it on to record or play, a code appears on the display screen "E04 Remove and reattach battery. Unit in safegaurd mode." I have tried to remove the battery and replace it and I have the head cleaned. Twice I have brought it in for repairs but over time the same thing comes up. Can any one tell me what causes this and how to rectify it.

I have two JVC camcorders now that are junk. The first is a Gr-DVL300 with E04 battery problems. I sent it in and they said it would be $300 to fix. So I gave them there $50 for looking and got it back. For $300 I bought a new one. Now I got a GR-D270US, it was supposed to hook strait up to my computer. It even came with a usb cord. Well they said sorry. In the direction book it did not say sorry. So they got me two times. Could some one send me the information on the law suit. I really don't think they should be allowed to say sorry and the problems/we just go away.

I have this same problem with my camera. This JVC unit is junk. It has never worked well and this stupid "drum error code" is really a bummer.
I think I have forund the solution, ... if you bought a JVC camera you should imediately deposit it in the nearest landfill site you can find, ... and then immediately replace the JVC GR-DVL300 with a Sony camera.
I have run out of energy for all my electronics failing. Nobody wants to build anything really well anymore, ... or if they do build it really well it makes them stick out so far that they can justify the high prices they charge.
Every piece of Sony gear I have ever bought still works ... and I have a pile of gear from other manufacturers, ... like Denon, Panasonic, JVC, Electrohome, ... all junk.
Get smart ... pitch that camera in the garbage where it belongs and make sure to tell all your friends how happy you were with it, ... then get a Sony and be happy.
Life is too short to own a JVC camera.
A few nights back, ... I had these two really hot chicks come back after the bar, ... and they were so drunk & horny they started touching each other on the couch, ... then they agreed that I should video tape them having sex, ... and this stupid E04 message came up on the camera, ... and I couldn't video the show, ... and my memory of the event is fuzzy, ... and I really really would have liked this stupid frikking camera to work.
Better Days ... I'm buying a new Sony. Like I said, every single Sony product I have ever bought still works.
JVC ... To the Dump, Dump, Dump.

Remove the battery while the camera is at the "on" position then put it back. Press the forward or rewind button then stop. This should solve your problem. It works for me. Good Luck!!!

Turn's out that JVC Does that to protect your camcorder some do it some don't because there might not be a problem and JVC will pay a tech to unlock this mode under waranty and you can get extended waranty by calling satis fusion at 1-888-269-6432 even your item is out of waranty.

Tim - 1st Aug 2006 0:19 Hey I just wanted to say that hitting my camera did in fact work. The "safeguard mode" thing went away after I hit it a couple of times.

jeremey - 21st Aug 2006 6:27 yeah hit the camera on the side it actually works after half an hour of removing and attaching the battery i hit it and it went away thanx:)
- Re: JVC CONDENSATION ERROR Terry - 25th Aug 2006 4:02
IT WORKS !!!!! Doing what someone just posted works! To get the CONDENSATION message to go away, cover the lens with your hand. This will cause the camera to display a different message, "LENS CAP". Now you can remove your hand and you should no longer have any error messages.
Duhhh, go figure??

Mike K - 31st Aug 2006 3:31 I came across Error 4 this past week on my GR-DVL300. Like everyone else, I removed the battery and and put in back in only to find it did not clear the error.
I stumbled across the postings here after doing a google search and found the one about hitting the camera on the side. I wacked the camera on the side just once and now it is working! I'm glad that is all it took and I am glad that I found the posting on this site!

Hi All, I had a JVC DVX9 camcorder (£1200 retail at time of purchase). I have had all the problems - condensation message, clean heads message and error EO4 remove and reattach battery message. Unit was just out of warranty when problems started and after following various recommendations from JVC I again took there advice and submitted it to a store (recommended by JVC). Paid my money for it to be looked at and then waited and waited and waited. Jvc kept saying they would discuss with store and when I finally tried to recover the unit the store had gone into liquidation. I could not get my equipment back and JVC simply washed their hands of the matter. Bottom line is DO NOT BUY JVC. I made it quiet clear that I would not purchase any more JVC products unless they sorted something out and - to date - am still waiting. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND JVC TO ANY BODY AND IT WOULD SEEM THAT IT WAS NOT A ONE OFF FROM THE NOTES HERE. JVC OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO INTENTION OF HELPING AND WOULD CONSIDER OTHER ACTIONS IF ANY BODY HAS SUGGESTIONS.
