The smacking method is really a life saver. I just fixed my good old SONY TRV75 with few hard smacks. It works okay for now. I am not sure if it will happen again. Thanks for the tip and thanks for a google search on E:61:10
LOL

Jeff - 13th Jan 2005 17:34 Believe it or not, the whacking "solution" worked for me after a couple of rounds. After hitting the barrel a few times with no luck, the error message cleared after I hit the frame of the lens, face down, on my mouse pad.

OMG i thought it was a joke at first but it actually works. You only need to hit the camera on the floor and voila no more E:61:10 error message

Rob - 21st Jan 2005 21:27 Add me to the list of smackers. I had dropped my TRV-510 in the dirt. After cleaning it out I had no zoom and no focus. Searched on Mr. Google and found this thread. A few light smacks did nothing. Got a rubber mallet and started with light taps, then graduated to medium taps. On a scale of 1-10 I hit it at about a 3. Four taps and the zoom function returned, but focus only worked throughout part of the zoom range. A few more taps and it's fully functional. Probably a sliding mechanism gets stuck when it receives too much shock. The taps unstick it.

Philly - 6th Feb 2005 21:25 Well blow me down if the "two wacks" doesn't work on my Sony DCR-PC9 as well. I had forgotton I'd dropped mine back at the airport. Firm wacks against the palm of your hand works - although mine took about six wacks! Kept the power off.

Raymund dela Pena - 6th Mar 2005 17:41 Thank you all so much for the great advice. It F'n worked!!!
I had the box and bubble wrap all ready to ship for repairs, when i decided to do a "controlled drop" on the opposite side of the impact that caused this mess. Held it about 6" from the hardwood floor and dropped it twice. Now, the full auto-focus range is back with the image stabilization.
Some might say that dropping it on a hard wood floor may be a little to risky, But I was ready to ship it out anyways and bite the bullet on a repair bill. You see I was smacking the Sh$! out of it the other day and it didn't work...even tried a rubber mallet. I guess it couldn't quite get it jarred enough.
Well, thanks for all of your responses, once again.
