Andrew F - 27th May 2005 23:49 Ignore my previous post.
Thought I didnt have anything to lose as I wasnt gonna send it to sony.
Bypassed the whack and progressed to the punch. Knuckles hurt but dvcam is now back in action...wooohooo :)
Thanks whackman :)

Yes..you must have banged it on something..or the weather messed with it. All I know is that I had mine in my coat and when I went to show this dude it.. it had that error too! I think the zoom or focus is/was stuck. Ok so I read all the postings in the world and you have two choices. Either send it to a repair shop..which will take forever + $$$$ and they cant promise it will stay "working...OR just bang it Gently on the wall. I chose the banging method and sure enough after a few bangs..IT WORKS!!! So don't send it out..just bang it gently..I tried a few times while it was off and it went away and came back then it worked but the focus was like stuck out still...so I tried the banging method while it was on and it worked! I just held the strap and let it dangle and tapped it against the wall gently. Let me know if it works...I'm curious.... GOOD LUCK!!!

Brett Heidenreich - 26th Oct 2005 18:57 I have tried the bang method about 20 times, even blatantly dropping it from head height and still nothing. So I thought this is b.s., and didn't try for about 3 weeks, then checking the forums again, I thought may as well give it another crack and gave it a bang on the bottom, on the table, and bada bing!!although it was out of focus still but no error!! So then when still on, gave it another and you little beauty. Fixed T1. I think just keep banging it till it goes good.

patty - 15th Jun 2005 17:44 Hey guys, the smacking, banging, and whacking isn«t doing me any good at all. If someone could please identify the ¬barrel¬of my DSC-T1 (camera from the commercial with Steven Tyler...) I would really appreciate it, or if anyone is like me and had no success at first but then found it later on any advice would be helpul.
I had this problem before and the smacking was ok, but then the camera wouldn«t turn on. I took it to a Sony repair shop and he fixed the turning-on problem but was charging me 263Û for a new lens. I took the camera and didn«t have to pay for whatever the apagar problem was (he was talking in Spanish and I didn«t really catch everything) but now the smacking solution is not working.
Please help if you can! I«m in Europe for two months with no camera :(

Phil from Detroit. - 19th Aug 2005 22:31 I got a DSC-P52 that was flashing E:61:10 from a friend of mine. I tried 2 smacks fix and it didn't do it. I smacked it few times pretty hard and still no success. I eneded up tacking it apart. I took off lens assembly, and there are two motors on the bottom of it. One is for zoom and another for focus. I took zoom one of and noticed that zoom plastic guide was cracked. Obviosly smack fix was useless in this case.

pauline - 29th Aug 2005 16:26 OMG It really does work!!! My little girl chucked ours on the floor, the dreaded error message came up & the zoom and focus went. Searched the web and came across this thread, have to admit to being very sceptical but how thrilled was I when after 2 firm smacks it worked perfectly again :-) Thanks so much for this thread, its saved me lots of £s!!!

MG - 24th Sep 2005 22:15 Well, it still works, even on a DSC-F717. Smacked it twice on the side of the lens barrel and viola! Fortunately the only picture I missed was my 9 month old daughter kissing her image in a mirror.

bmth guy - 6th Nov 2006 16:18 doubtful that banging a high tech toy like my camera would do anything other than damage. Anyway banged camera face down i.e. on the lens cover (with it closed) once and it WORKED, cheers ALL

DrNevus - 17th Oct 2005 21:50 INCREDIBLE!! Had the E:61:10 error message out of the blue this AM. Manual says that this means "a camera malfunction that you cannot reverse has occurred." Found this forum with Google search. Dubiously, but firmly smacked the lens barrel against the palm of my hand twice...and voila! It works perfectly...and NO harm done. This makes my day :-) -- DrNevus
