no kidding. I smaked the lense on the inside panel just above the usb port then couple mild hits on the bottom. turned it off, then on and the error code is gone

You'll never believe this. I smacked the camera a couple of times, and guess what happened? Nothing! The E:61:10 problem still exists. I have to manually go into the menu and adjust the focus settings every time I turn on the camera.

I have my doubts about knocking a $400 device against the wall a year after I bought it. It should work on its own.

I should have purchased a cannon, panasonic or even a no-name brand. This piece of crap was a waste...

I have a sony cybershot dsc-p52, I had the same error and smacked it a couple times on the back left edge while it was off, now it works! Thank you for the info.

Now I have a 2nd dsc-p52 with a different issue, the lens cover jams and just makes a grinding sound when you turn it on. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    This not-so-nice method works...

My boyfriend owns a DSCF-707 and I'm always borrowing it ... but I accidentally dropped it (from a distance about a meter high). The E:61:10 error appeared!! I was terrified. Google then took me here.

For me, the final solution was hitting the camera on the side of the barrel against a wood table, quite hard but still carefully... but before doing that, I had to read a loooot of these posts and experiment sooo many different ways of hitting the poor camera. It's scary!! But the camera is working fine now.

(Hope my boyfriend doesn't find this site... as you can imagine, if the problem is solved now, of course I won't tell him what happended!)

Hoorah, Error e:61:10 solved, took quite a few hits, first on mouse mat then on table, then i thought i had fixed it by hitting base on hand. but no only true fixed after a throw to the carpeted floor which ricocheted onto a bed post!!

I got this error on my beloved P50 three years ago (in 2002) and gave up trying to fix it. Eventually, I bought a new camera. Today, just for grins, I googled the error and found this page. I followed the whack method first whacking with my hand, then holding the camera firmly and hitting the base flat against a soft cover book. The first whack did nothing. The second caused the disply to go blank. When I turned it on again, I got a 'boot' screen and then the camera started to function normally! Wow! I thought I'd deep sixed the camera for good. Thanks to everyone in this forum for helping me out. This made my day!
