Re: JVC GR - DVL300

Juan Carrera Posted Apr 10, 2004, in response to:Paul

Forgive the interruption, but a group of almost 50 of us JVC camera owners are planning on taking JVC to court via a class-action lawsuit. If interested, I can give you more details if you email me. Basically, we all have one of some 23 camera models that show the E04 / REATTACH BATTERY / UNIT IN SAFEGUARD MODE problem, and believe this problem has been known to JVC for years and still they expect people to pay for repairs.

I have a JVC GR-D30U Digital Video Camera that now has a black screen. I cannot use this camera no more. It is has been used very little and is 1-1/2 years old. I thought that JVC made good products, but I will not buy any other JVC product because of this problem with my camera. I called a JVC authorized repair place and they told me it would cost about $200 to fix it. JVC should repair it for nothing.

I bought a GR-D50EK in the UK May 2003, by March 2005, not having used the camera for about 6 months, the thing just packed up on me. First problem was playing an existing recording, seriously de-graded picture with lots of noise, then got a E04 and chewed up tape. Subsequently the camera starts working fine, then deteriorates, everything slows to a stop, zoom won't work, recording or playback stops, and switching off does nothing (power on light stays on). Frequent E04 messages with tapes getting stuck and no sound on recordings. I'm just about to try the severe blow to the side of the camera, unless anyone can give me good reason not to.

A quick update about the JVC lawsuit. It is expanded in scope, no longer focused on the E04 / Battery / Safeguard problem but claims that JVC camcorders suffer from design and manufacturing flaws which customers are expected to "repair". Also, there are over 600 complaints in my database and over 225 people have given their contact info to join the lawsuit. Over 100 camcorder models are included, and people from 30 countries have joined.

Amazing. I was just wondering searching for some information on this error message about the battery and I stumbled on this. My GR-AXM250 has the same problem. Please add my name. It is rediculous that a company should be able to sell a camcorder that can't last more than a couple of years. Thanks for your efforts.
