Re: FIX!!! for Self Diagnosis C:31:22

TJR Posted Nov 16, 2004, in response to:Stacy Sample

Had the same error message on my TRV-720, and could not come up with a solution for weeks until I found this website: http://www.protechcam.com/wwwboard/messages/127.html Now the fix you will not believe, nor did I at first, but requires you to power off the unit completely and "Smack it" a few times fairly hard. Now you may do this at your risk, but I swear it fixed mine and all the other people listed at the above web site. I thought it was a joke - but it works!! Good Luck! TJR

Many thanks to everyone who's posted on this site. You've all saved me an absolute fortune!!!! A couple of slaps to the side of the camera has done the trick. Good job too - it's my daughter's birthday today and I've been trying to get the camera to work all week. Thanks again. Neil Nottingham

My english isn't good but only have to say Thanks! I didn't try to smack my camera yet but I'm hoping that works on my too, because I already tried to many things and nothing... I was thinking 10 minutes ago that I needed a new camera, now I know that if I decide to buy a new one, never it's going to be from that company!!! I hate them...

You have got to be kidding me. I thought you were all crazy but I had nothing to loose I was getting ready to slam my camera against the wall because of this tupid C:31:32, so I hit it a few times with my palm and nothing, then I hit it again one time on each side and on the top and bottom, and now it is working just fine. Who would have thought. Thanks

O my God....! I have been reading these replys with amusement, and then the more I read the more I had to believe it was true. I have an old PC6, awsome little handheld about the size of your palm with touchscreen controls. Like you I thought it had, had it and was time for a new one. And low and bloody behold, a few taps on the floor and hey presto, we're back in business. Unbelievable. You are an absolute STAR. Thanks. Craig Butfoy - London UK

I/m an IT/Process (Mech engineer) control person with an engineering background, when you suggested knocking it a few hard times it took me back to the old engineering joke of getting out the hammer and giving it a good knock. It worked, missed some great footage back visiting the family but at least I have a fix. How did yo work out that this would fix the problem?? Thanks again

Check out this discussion thread on the topic. Be sure the check the rubber roller inside that is used for the tape tension. http://www.camerahacker.com/Forums/DisplayComments.php?file=Video%20Camera/Sony/Sony_DCR-TRV18_-_Error_Code..html
