Re: FIX!!! for Self Diagnosis C:31:22

TJR Posted Nov 16, 2004, in response to:Stacy Sample

Had the same error message on my TRV-720, and could not come up with a solution for weeks until I found this website: http://www.protechcam.com/wwwboard/messages/127.html Now the fix you will not believe, nor did I at first, but requires you to power off the unit completely and "Smack it" a few times fairly hard. Now you may do this at your risk, but I swear it fixed mine and all the other people listed at the above web site. I thought it was a joke - but it works!! Good Luck! TJR

For all you smart guys out there, I had this error for 2 years. About to throw the camera out the door. Decided to give smacking it a shot. When I did, a small cyndrical guide wheel was jarred loose. After taking a few minutes and using common sense, I figured out where it belonged. Re-inserted the guide and fired up the camera. Works for the first time in 2 years. For others out there, check for any rubber guides that may have come loose. This is probably the problem.

Hi. To smack the camera is an interesting solution. But some camera can be damaged, if you smack them too hard. I had the same problem whit my Sony CCD-TR840E. I try the “smack method” but its only work for few minutes. I find another solution, since a smack help a little I suggest It must be something loose in the camera. I take out the cassette, powered off the camera, and touch very carefully a little white cylindered wheel away from the black wheel. I also open up “Bend out” the slides for the cassettes, so the cassettes smock smoothly into the camera. All irritating sound disappears and the camera is working very silent without any fault. Good luck!

I tried hitting the camera a bit, nothing.... I opened the camera and took out the tape. Then, I moved the wheels like someone else suggested and inserted the tape back in the camera. IT WORKS!!! Who knew? I was just about to get another camera because I know Sony charges a flat $250 to fix it.

Well I went out last night and decided to use my sony handycam for a change, it was beeping so I ejected the tape and started again....was fine. When I turned the handycam back on it started beeping and flashing C31:22...coudnt figure it out and it was driving me insane so I came online this morning to try and find a solution. "Bashing" it seemed a bit dangerous but I couldn't find any other resolution to I DID IT. It's working perfectly now!!! THANK YOU
