Convergence problems on AV-48WP30

Mark Venable Posted Apr 10, 2005

Can't adjust the red horizontally

Convergenge went out suddenly about a week ago. I can adjust the blue horizontally and vertically. The red will only adjust vertically. However, the horizontal is way out of whack. Any ideas? Thanks

I have the red vertical problem and replace the two ic's but the same prob. Then I noticed that the writing on one of the resistors was smudged, maybe it was burnt off. Could one resistor cause the same problem as a bad ic? I will replace it. Also, could you foreward me a copy of the service manual so I can find the pico fuses just in case? Thanks

I replaced the two STK392-110 with two STK392-150. Seemed to go fine. But when I plugged the board in and fired the TV back up, the speakers just made a popping noise and the blue light blinked. Then the board started smoking at around the R854 point. In an earlier post Eric mentioned replacing the six 1 watt resistors. Two questions. Could a bad solder point on one of IC804 or IC805 cause a resistor to burn out? Is there a standard ohm resistor I can buy at Radio Shack to replace the exisiting resistors? They all seem to have a different ohm rating and I'm a novice at this whole deal. I guess one more question. Could a fried resistor damage other components in the TV?

I am having the exact same problem except I have a JVC HV-53Pro, can anyone help me with this model. Wave line at the top left corner, it's my yellow that won't adjust. Help me please. Reggie

It looks like I just got this problem too. If someone have the DIY guide to fix the convergence, could someone please e-mail it to me. Thanks, Brad Carlson.

This guide has been done for about 2 weeks. If the guide has worked for you please post some feedback for the others. Thanks.

Trying to fix a TV for my recently departed friends widow; red convergance suddenly shifted aprox 1.5 inches to the left, and unable to compensate enough using convergance menu adjustments. My friend researched the problem & ordered a new DV board. Replaced DV board last night, zero difference in the problem. Purchased a manual today and discovered no troubleshooting info/tips, nor physical means to adjust centerline of red gun. Can service-level coarse convergance compensate for the problem, or is the TV dumpster ready? I believe a tech service call fee exceeds the value of the set. Thanks.
