I have a Sony DSC-F707 digital camera that gives a C:13:01 memory stick error when I put any one of my memory stick. Anyone have any ideas short of sending the camera to Sony.

    Hey Everyone!
So I was looking all over the internet b/c I have this error, c:13:01, too. Initally, I had thought to format the memory stick too on my computer. The first time I formatted the stick, nothing happened and still had the error. I tryed again, still nothing. The third time, I noticed that there are to different File Systems: FAT32 and FAT. The first two formats were at FAT32. The third format at did was FAT. This fixed my error and hopefully will fix all of yours. Goodluck!

I have just had this problem. Good news is that if you format the stick with the camera the error goes. I think the problem is beacuse i used a card reader to format. Hope this helps

I have this error (C:13:01) with two separate 8MB sticks I have been carrying in my wallet, but the 32MB stick I usually use in my DSC-P31 works fine.
Unfortunately, the bad memory sticks also stop the camera appearing in the list of removaeable devices, soi I can't reformat them. (Win2000, SP4)

Interesting to see a lot of the same problems for these cameras!! I as well have a problem with my Sony Mavica FD87... Each time I insert a disk, new or one I've already used, it flashes "disk protect" and will not allow me to take any pictures. It was random at first, but now it won't take any disks or allow any pictures to be taken. Sony wants me to send it for repair. Any suggestions???

I have the same problem with my Sony CD Mavica 3.3 megapixel (MVC CD300) where I was taking pictures recently and one cd is telling me "Disk protect." I cannot finalise, format, or initialise the disk. Other disks work fine. There are also other photos that I know I have taken on the disk, but I cannot view or finalise them as "disk protect" comes up on the camera and my PC won't show the extra files. Does this mean the disk is full, and does anyone know how to unprotect the files I have not finalised?

    Guys,
Today, 11/09/03, I got the same error code in my sony dsc f717, don't know what to do, my camera is basically new, is this a prolem with the Sony cameras in general? After I paid $1000 for this camera and now I cannot use it is not good at all. I wish I can send back to sony, so they can have a luch with this peace of junk!!!!! What pisses me off the most is that I am in Thailand, I need to take some pictures, but as I said the peace of junk is not working!!!!

  • Re: SONY C:13:01 ERROR P/O'd - 10th Nov 2003 19:43
So, this problem will continue whether you use the FD or the MS? I think Sony should recall this camera, or all their cameras with a FD. This is not the first time the FD has died on me. It's much simplier to use a FD, because not all college students have access PC or LT of their own. The disk allowed greater flexibility.

I also have this error on my Sony Mavica CD300 camera that I paid a TON for! This camera has the mini-CD in it. It makes a horrible loud grinding noise and then the R/W icon flashes and the error number shows up and I have to shut the camera down. Does anyone know what causes this error?
    Thanks - Rita.

I had this problem, and since they wanted an awful amount of money to fix it, I decided to open it: I kept it open while swtiching on, and I realized that there was a problem with the lens of the CD reader, which was tryin to go "too far" in the camera body and that was where the noise was coming from. So I took a little screwdriver and "helped" the lens to find its place. And it worked! at least for the moment.

I have a 4 year old Mavica MC-CD300 which has this problem with some regularity. Try the reset button on the bottom of the camera. Tilt your camera and look below the LCD Display Backlight button on the bottom edge of the curved portion of the camera. You will need a paperclip or tip of a ball point pen to push the recessed little button. Place the camera on a level surface and try again. We find that the camera is very sensitive to tilting, as it gets older. Eventually it will be necessary to send it in for the $211 repair. Good luck Hank

Hi, when this problem started I sorted it out by using a cleaning diskette, just once, without any cleaning liquid, it worked fine for several months, after that, the problem continued, and so I started to use the isopropilic alcohol, some drops in the cleaning diskette, worked for some more months, but now, it is not working at all, I bought a new cleaning diskette but it is not working at all, it seems to be an unusual quality problem of a genuine Sony equipment - as cars they should make a recall, free service to troubleshoot this annoying problem. Or, at least, to give sound and clear advice of what to do.

I BOUGHT A USED MAVICA CD1000 WHICH BORE THE MESSAGE C:1301 DISK ERROR. IT IS PUR LIES. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE GEARS THAT DRIVE THE CD UNIT GET CHEWEDUP AND STOP TURNING THE DRIVE. I TOOK MY UNIT TO SONY IN MONTREAL, CANADA AND THEY HAD THE BOLD AUDACITY TO ASK ME $1024.00 TOREPAIR THE UNIT. WAITING FOR SOME INFORMATION TO ARRIVE, THEN I TAKE THEM TO COURT. IT IS ABSOLOTELY AN INFERIOR PRODUCT BY DESIGN. MEANTIME IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE I CAN GET THE GEARS THAT DRIVE THE CD CONTACT ME PLEASE.

I don't know where to buy the gears, but I may be able to help you out. Did you see worn out gears yourself, or is this just what they told you is wrong? I have repaired several of the CD1000 cameras myself, and it has never been a matter of worn out gears, but rather a small metal arm that gets bent and no longer drives the laser back and forth correctly. Rather than fix this metal arm, most places would rather replace the assembly, which is when it gets expensive. Feel free to email me if you'd like to have me repair yours. Most of the time, it only costs $50 US, plus shipping

did you find a fix? I have pictures that I can't copy off the 128K stick. I was able to print them -- on a HP printer -- it saw them to print, but not to copy. What can we do?

hey- All you need to do is "Quick format" the disk with the CAMERA rather than the memry stick plugged into the computer drive.

HERE IS THE SOLLUTION: I had the very same problem, error 13:01 on my sony DSC F707. 1. You have to reformat the memory stick FROM THE COMPUTER. 2. YOU DONT NEED A SPECIAL PROGRAM. 3. First I plugged my camera into the USB port using the cable that came with the camera. (The computer's USB port on one end of the cable and the slot that is revealed when you flip down the opening form the lens on the camera end of the cable). 4. On Windows I clicked did START, RUN, and then typed this exact thing in the run window (without the quote marks): "H: /FS:FAT /A:8192" "H" is my drive letter for my camera. Your drive letter may be different. 5. The important part is /A:8192. This means that the cluster-size on the memor stick has to be 8kb. (The standard format in windows 512kb clusters but the memory stick is different and you have to tell it so.) Happy picture-taking.

I seem to have this C:13:01 Memory Stick error, obviously from all the posts not exactly a new thing!! I have tired the "Format H: /FS:FAT /A:8192" advice but it didn't work at all, has anybody come up with any viable solutions in the last couple of years?

THE PROBLEM: I have a Sony Mavica CD500 and recently had the C:13:01 file read error. The problems began when I switched from using Memorex to TDK mini cds, although I'm unsure if the brand of cds are really the culprit. After waiting several minutes for the camera to finish "fixing data", the mini-cd was unreadable and couldn't even download the photos through the USB cable connected to the notebook computer. THE SOLUTION: I installed and used the CDRoller program (http://www.cdroller.com) to diagnose the mini-cd on my notebook computer, after adjusting the 'Preferences' section according to the instructions. The program managed to salvage my friend's homecoming pictures on that cd, a once in a lifetime experience! And so, I'm back to using Memorex mini-cds and haven't had the problem since. Here are some helpful notes to avoid this problem altogether. 1. Always have sufficient battery when using the camera to take pictures, initializing and finalizing mini-cds. 2. Never turn off the camera while it's doing anything, for example, while the red light next to the LCD screen is on. 3. Take a photograph at a time to properly save the image to the mini-cd. 4. Read the instruction manual thoroughly to understand the camera's functions and procedures. All in all, I've taken many professional quality photographs with my Sony CD500, and with it's minor limitations, the advantages far exceed them.

HI, I have the same problem with the same camera, disc, etc. I tried using a new memorex disc and still got the same 13:01 error code. Did you ever find out if its the disc or camera, would appreciate a replly. Also do you have to buy the cdroller or can you get a copy. Thanks, Candy
