MAHIMA - 30th Jan 2004 20:20 I have bought a cyber shot dscp72 and got the C:13:01 exactly a month after I bought it.Officemax(where i bought it)refuses to exchange and Sony has asked me to send the camera for repairs.I did not expect such quality from a brand like SONY.Lets see what hapens. And to be specific my problem is get this error with all the 3 Memory sticks I have. All were free with the camera.I have not yet reformatted the sticks but after reading the responses I feel,I am better off sending the camera for repairs within the 90 day free labor period. What do you all think?

Use the program BodCopy to recover your photos from your Memory stick.

Have the same problem (C13:01) on my DSC-P8 with a Sony Memory Stick. Spoke to Sony tech support in The Netherlands today and they informed me that the Memory Stick was probably broken. There was nothing that could be done except return the MS to the store and invoke the warrantee (which, thank god, hasn't yet elapsed). P.S. I tried formatting the MS with my computer, but that did not work. Fortunately I had already uploaded my pics. My advise to all would be: make sure you upload your pics to your computer on a regular basis!

Sharon McIntosh - 23rd Feb 2004 1:26 My Sony DSC-F717 began displaying this error message after I started downloading my pictures using the USB port at my parents house, where they happen to use the Windows XP platform. I had never connected the two. I sent the camera to Ritz Camera (place of purchase) to be repaired and they sent it back to me last week. I have been using it and tonight when I went to download the pictures, the same C13:01 "MEMORY STICK ERROR" occured. The fact that I have recently installed Windows XP on my machine leads me to believe that there is a direct correlation. Does anyone know if using a card reader will fix this problem or if I should just install Windows 2000 instead? I am nearing the end of my patience with Sony and this product, even though I love the pictures this camera takes. If anyone has any advice, please let me know. Neither the pencil eraser technique or the rapid insertion worked for my camera. None of my memory sticks will work.

I do not think this problem has anything to do with Windows XP. I have this problem with only one of three Memory Sticks. The stick can't be read by a card reader on Win2k or WinXP, the DSC-F707, or the DSC-F717 (which is the camera I used). The 128MB stick worked fine as I filled it to capacity. It then lived in a thin, single-stick case for a week in a backpack, an 8 hour flight, and a snowcat ride in the same backpack. It was after all this that I tried the stick again and it didn't work.
One interesting thing is that first I filled a 64MB stick with 39 files then I filled the 128MB stick. The card reader shows me that 64MB of the damaged 128MB stick is used by 39 files. The F717 camera shows me that the damaged stick has 39 files on it. Only I can't view them and get a "File Error" with a blue screen where the picture should be. After scrolling 3 times I get the "Format Error C:13:01" message. So the 128MB stick thinks it is the 64MB stick. I wonder how that happened.
The stick worked for 128MB pictures worth. So I think it was damaged in transport. Recommendation = get a rugged case for storage. BUT, why does this 128MB stick think it is the 64MB stick. Did the camera mess up? Or was it the memory card reader I first tried to read the card in? (First I read the 64MB and then the 128MB using the reader.)

Same thing! My DSC-P72, nearly new but outside waranty time, is showing the same 13:01 Memory Stick Errror on both cards 32MB and 64MB from Lexar.

JumpStart - 27th Aug 2004 18:01 I had this problem with a completely unrelated camera and chip. It had to do with swapping chips before it rewrote the FAT on the chip. I downloaded a free program, recovered the pictures, then refomatted the chip. I don't remember the name of the program I used, but it showed the FAT of the old chip on the new chip. Hmm.

Steve - 6th Mar 2004 4:51 I also have a Mavica FD81 and I'm getting the same error. Someone posted and said that it was a faulty floppy drive. Is there anyway to replace it? If there is, what is the part number for it?

Curious if you found info on sony camera replacement drives?
Thanks

I have the FD-90 and I get this 13:01 error ONLY when I use diskette with the media stick in it. Diskettes work fine. The media sticks work fine in another Sony. Bending prongs and erasing contacts do NOT work. I didn't try formatting because the sticks work just fine -- so what is the problem and what do I do?
Thank you.

Steve - 11th Mar 2004 5:50 It Just Struck my mavica family... I Have 3 mavica's, all floppys. a fd73, 90, and my 95. well the 73 has been in service for years and has about 16,000 pictures under its faded and scratched belt. the 95 and 90 were bought together about 4 months ago. the 95 is a rarely used camera due to its tremendous size, but my little brother takes the 90 back and forth to school daily. well after 2 months of daily use "format error" c:13:01 !!!! its a real drag. i dont wish to disassemble but will if 170 charge is the only other way. (bought the camera new for 70 bucks!) Little Help?
