please inform of where to find instructions for printing pictures after using Sony FD Mavica. I have a Lexmark Z22-23 printer. I am just having problems adapting the pictures and then printing the revised picture, r.e., zooming in on a picture and also using the cropping tool. Thank you for your assistance.

David Hoffman - 8th Jan 2004 14:51 I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P31 and am now getting this C:13:01 error on one my memory sticks. I wasn't too worried about loosing my pictures because the first thing I did was took the memory stick and stuck it in one of these USB reader/adapters and downloaded my pictures by-passing the camera. Then I tried to format the memory stick from the camera, but that would not work. I still get the error. So I formatted the stick in my adapter on my desktop computer which worked fine. But the camera still tells me that I have an error C:13:01. Now I believe that something is wrong with the camera. I tried Kevin's idea of reformatting the memory stick like using this command "format F: /FS:FAT /A:8192" but that still does nothing for the error on the camera. I just thought I'd get out the memeory stick out of my Sony Clie and start using it instead of the bigger memory stick that was in my camera. Guess what, I still get the C:13:01 error. It has to be in the camera and not in the memory sticks. These memory sticks are true Sony memory sticks and not Lexar's or anything else. Are there any other ideas?

Anni - 18th Jan 2004 4:11 hii- i have a question, when you first put a disk in, and did not take any pix, is the disk symbol on the top right hand corner suppose to be blank or filled in? like.. a white cirlce or a blank circle? cuz im not sure which one means full disk. thanxx
- Re: Re: SONY C:13:01 ERROR
Garry Garrett - 27th Jul 2004 21:56 Might help if you specified which camera you have. I have a MVC-CD500. There is a disc displayed in the upper right hand corner. If it is solid "white", then the CD is empty. As more and more of the disc is used, the "white" turns into transparent (can see whatever the camera is looking at), which a white circle around the edge. When it's all transparent, except for the circle the disk is full. The battery uses a similar scheme.

Robert Roque - 20th Jan 2004 2:12 I too had problems with this and found the solution, which I think everyone here will benefit from. After searching everywhere on the internet, none of the solutions provided help me out. Here's what I found. The problem is that if you ever use the memory stick on other camera besides the Sony DSC-F707 or format the memory stick on a computer instead of using the camera's format feature, then you will experience the "Memory Stick Error C:13:01" problem. Here's the solution that finally worked for me. Take any lead pencil. Take the eraser and rub it on the gold contacts on the memory stick as if you are erasing writing on paper. Do this for about 30 seconds or more until you get all the gold contacts. Put the stick in the camera, switch to 'Setup', then turn the camera on. The 'C:13:01' error will automatically disappear. At this point, quickly format the memory stick using the camera's format feature. CAUTION: NEVER FORMAT YOUR MEMORY STICK ON OTHER CAMERAS, USING A COMPUTER WITH A MEMORY STICK READER OR USING WINDOWS XP WITH A USB CABLE PLUGGED TO THE CAMERA. IT DOESN'T WORK. FORMAT YOUR MEMORY STICK USING THE CAMERA'S BUILT IN FUNCTION ONLY. Hope it helps and best regards.

I have a Sony DSC-F717 And this did the trick. Take a pencil and use the eraser on the gold metal portion of the Memory Stick. Stick in in the camera and turn it to Setup befor turning it on. Then turn it on and reformat the Memory Stick with the Cameras Format Function. Voila! I'm good to go. I tried the other methods to no avail. Thanks, Thanks and Thanks.

erotic1 - 13th Jul 2004 3:29 same problem with new dsc-p32.. had camera about 45 days and then all the sudden memory stock error... the memory stick works fine in my other 2 sony cams but no other sticks work in this camera now.. i called sony she said rest the camera but does not work either. She said take it to nearest auth sony center which 380 miles away in California... I am also past my 30 day return so now im screwed.. sony will not even acknowledge this problem on there web site either.. i told her to make sure she notes that in her report that they should at least acknowldge this as a know problem or defect.. this stinks!
the pencil trick did not work either..

John - 8th Aug 2004 4:45 Thank you so very much. This was quite the upsetting thing as my memory card was only 60 days old and I didn't want to have to deal with any longer.

Rhonda - 16th Aug 2004 22:23 Hi Robert,
I was ready to throw away my memory stick when it dawned on me to type the error message into Google. I found your posting, did what you said and "Presto"! It worked! Thank you for saving me many $$$.

- Re: Re: SONY C:13:01 ERROR Todd Pekats - 1st Sep 2004 9:49
Robert,
I agree with your approach, I did the same. I am concerned that the issue is with the contacts inside the camera it self. I cleaned the memorystick contacts and still intermitantly receieve the problem. I used a special micro abrasive file to perform this so I know that I removed the oxidation. Any other ideas?
- Re: Re: SONY C:13:01 ERROR Saif - 9th Sep 2004 8:54
Another possible problem - version...
I got this error using a SanDisk Memory Stick PRO - 256 mb....
I am running a Sony MVC FD100 - so yea...
I think it\'s just not compatible. I cannot REACH the copper readers to do the trick, and the format was refused.
If anyone else has a suggestion in dealing with c:13:01 - I\'d love to hear it - because 70$ for 256 is alot better than 100$.
- Re: Re: SONY C:13:01 ERROR Dave Kenny - 18th Sep 2004 14:33
Amazing! It worked on the first attempt. The eraser must be essential because I had already tried using set-up to format the stick. I had used the memory stick in a newer Sony camera and had performed some renaming options on the files while they were on the stick in my PC. I suspect the latter is what tripped things up. Thanks.
- Re: Re: SONY C:13:01 ERROR Dave Kenny - 18th Sep 2004 14:36
Another thought. For my camera, it may be purely due to oxidation on the contacts. I had the camera and the sticks at the beach. It was VERY humid and condensation was a recurring issue. I found that all of my sticks needed similar cleaning. Thanks again.
- C:13 01 Memory Stick Error DSC F707
Jim Dutroit - 23rd Sep 2004 23:52 I just bought a SanDisk 512 MB Memory Stick Pro from a trusted camera dealer. One showroom guy told me it would not work in my camera, a second guy told me it would work.
What do you know, it doesn\'t! So I searched the internet and found your Eraser Solution and got pretty psyched until I tried it. It seems the contacts you mentioned have to be touched by the eraser. Well that just is not possible because there are plastic ridges elevated above the contacts protecting them. The eraser just gets chewed up without any touching or cleaning of the contacts. I have tried a Q tip to get in there as well and it does not work either.
When I put the stick into my Sony DSC F707 and select SET UP, it shows the error message and an EXIT button, then I am able to bypass the error and bring up the Format selection, but when I choose Format OK it does nothing but bring me back to the error message.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated otherwise I will have to mail this item back to the camera dealer.
Thanks,
Jim

Volker Groehn - 20th Jan 2005 21:01 Hi, Jim,
the first showroom guy seems better informed.
I encountered the same problem with a brand new SanDisk 1024 MB Memory Stick Pro.
The compatibility list on Sony's page
http://www.sonydigital-link.com/memstick/compatibility/compatibility.asp?l=en&f=dsc
tells me that any Pro-Version is not compatible to DSC-F707. One needs at least DSC-F717. My troublesome memory stick works fine on a Cybershot DSC-V1 - so I think the guys from Sony are right.
- Re: Re: SONY C:13:01 ERROR
Bandi - 22nd Nov 2004 18:11 My Sony DSC-F717 developed the dreaded C:13:01 memory stick error problem. I tried everything I thought was reasonable: on/off a few times, changed memory sticks, reformatted the first stick with a USB stick reader (the format function in the camera was blocked, reformatted another stick in another Sony camera, reinserted a memory stick several times into the drive (suggested in manual), reset the camera functions with the small button near the stick drive. Nothing worked! I avoided physically abusing the camera in fear of adding to the camera's problems. I read where someone in great frustration shook the camera and fixed it!
Just before sending it away to be repaired, I thumped it in my palm. IT WORKED! I hesitate to suggest a hard knock, but a soft bump got my camera working again.
- Re[3]: SONY C:13:01 ERROR
Bonnie - 19th Jun 2006 21:03 I tried shaking my camera and hitting the side a little. It worked. I got rid of the memory card error.
Thanks!

Hey, I have tried so many different approaches as to how to solve this error. I have a DSC-F707. I have 3 - 128mb memory sticks and 1 - 64mb memory stick, all Sony and all the sudden non of them were reading it would pop up the same error. I tried the ERASER, I tried messing with the little prongs inside the camara that touch the memory sticks, I tried inserting each memory stick rapidly for more than 10 times and nothing ever worked. My last resort was this post. BANG THE CRAP OUT OF YOUR CAMARA, in everywhich angle. The firt 5 blows didnt do it so I tried different areas to bang the camara and after like 10 times hitting it hard and softly with my palm it finally started reading ALL the memory sticks. I formatted them quickly just incase but I dont think that was the problem with my memory sticks. THANKS SOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR THIS POST. I strongly recommend banging your camara to and extent that you dont break it if all else fails.

ANTHONY - 1st Jan 2007 20:45 I too have the dsc-F717. I tried everything, the erasure, formating with FAT, formatting with the A:8192. Nothing worked. But the slight bump suggested here got it to working again. Thanks.

Wynde - 16th Jan 2007 20:09 You are wonderful!! After trying the eraser trick without success several times. I kept reading and found you "CURE ALL REMEDY" and don't know why I didn't try it sooner, (maybe that explains why at one time it started working again), but after thumping it against the heel of my hand it worked fine, on both of my memory sticks,(I had bought a new one in hopes that this would fix it). I can't thank you enough for this simple yet wonderful fix.
- Re[3]: SONY C:13:01 ERROR Robert Ct - 28th Jan 2008 21:19
Just a note to inform you that I have had this problem twice - Once 2 years ago while it was still under guarantee (DSC-F717) - Sony said it had nothing wrong and that I should refrain from using other than their memory sticks... Anyway, this morning, it started again with the memory error - same dreaded message - ...
I hesitated before banging it but decided to do it anyway - just a slight thumb on the lens cylinder - It WORKED!!! - Tried it will all my memory stick (even my newer Lexar 4 GIG stick!).
Thanks again for the tip!

i have got a sony DSC F717 and yesterday i bought a new Sandisk memory stick pro 512MB.
I receive the same error from the camera. I tried that trik with two diferent kind of erasers, introducing the stick a lot of times in the camera, formated the stick several time with the funtion of the camera (also in the laptop, in FAT format).
Always the same... i have a normal stick from sony (32MB) and it works properly.
Format works in the camera and in the sony laptop. I can load Photos through the laptop and format them, but not see them...
I didnīt get to make any photograf using this memory stick.
FORMAT ERROR C:13:01
I donīt know if the memory stick is faulty or if iīm doing anything wrong...
Please help...
- Re[2]: SONY C:13:01 ERROR J - 9th Aug 2006 22:58
Thank you very much. I am most grateful. It worked like a charm... I would guess the contacts oxidize and the eraser removes some of the surface molecules - surface which builds up and effects the electrical conductivity, -electrical integrity, of the contacts.

Ruth Ann - 8th Apr 2007 18:36 Your suggestion worked for me. (It's 2007, three years after your posting!)
I bought a Sony DSC-W5 second-hand along with a San Disk 512 MB Memory Stick PRO. The memory stick gave the C:13:01 error right off the bat. So I have no idea what was done to it before.
But now we are back in business. Very grateful for this discussion forum.

JimmyG - 25th Jan 2004 14:51 Re: Sony DFC-F707, Robert Roque, Thanks for steering me in the right direction, I never thought it was the camera as the instruction manual warns of deleting formats on the disc. I did not use the eraser, but disconnected camera from USB to XP computer, set dial on 'set-up', turned camera on, got error report, pressed toggle button centre for 'exit' button shown, and got into set-up. Moved through menu to middle symbol, right-clicked and got on 'Format', right-clicked on toggle again, was given two options, being 'OK' or 'Cancel'. Pressed OK, and the memorystick reformatted itself. Then I was back to normal!!! Phew!!! I live and learn. Thanks all on this site! Regards, Jimmy.

I had similar problem. Looked everywhere for support without finding anything; until I tried the japanese site. This program (ver2.1) worked for me. Download and install. I didn't have any characters showing, just (????)on the buttons. Have to click and get lucky the first time like i did.

i tried this program to format the memory stick. But the error continues to occur. I however could recover all my pictures from the MS. The site url is : http://ciscdb.sel.sony.com/perl/swu-download.pl?te mplate=EN&upd_id=1277&PASSVAL2=SMB&session_id=43af b38f8aea76c1dfe5a9d03d477913
The problem still remains though. Please share if a better and more reliable solution is found.
Also I would like to know how do I complete erase the data from the MS. without even the recoverable data.
