I have had the same problem with a LEXAR MEDIA Memory Stick and because I couldn't re format it on the camera (Sony Cybershot DSC-P10), I have contated LEXAR and they have REPLACED it!!!
So if you have any problem with your memory stick, I highly recommend that you call the company you have bought it from and they'll take care of you!!
Mine was a 256MB memory stick and it was a lot of money to throw it out...

Hi ! Thank you for the "eraser" magic. It worked for me. Maybe it´s something with the camera "plug" that makes contact with the memory card and not the memory cards itself.I have two memory stick cards that had the same problem. I scrubed the eraser only in one of them. After the problem was solved for the first card, the other one, not scrubed, started working again. Muito obrigado !!!!!!

Hi, when this problem started I sorted it out by using a cleaning diskette, just once, without any cleaning liquid, it worked fine for several months, after that, the problem continued, and so I started to use the isopropilic alcohol, some drops in the cleaning diskette, worked for some more months, but now, it is not working at all, I bought a new cleaning diskette but it is not working at all, it seems to be an unusual quality problem of a genuine Sony equipment - as cars they should make a recall, free service to troubleshoot this annoying problem. Or, at least, to give sound and clear advice of what to do.

I tried the squeezing, the cleaning of the gold connectors, and what worked for me was the mini spanking of the camera. Like someone else said, maybe that moved some of the dust inside the camera. Good luck with yours!
