Re: JVC service or questions
George - 18th Feb 2004 5:25
Stacy, I see many (at least 10) who all complain about the same failure mode, including myself, on the JVC XX-980 series TV's. I've seen inquiries on the tech line that show the same issues. I also contacted JVC service center in and got the same "I'm sure we can fix it, but we want to see if it is cost effective to do so," lip service. DO you guys have a consumer affairs department. I see a design defect here that is costing consumers a lot of money, and also causing lost future business for JVC. My television is only 4.5 years old and wasn't used that much - until one day - dead. As an electrical engineer, I could troubleshoot the TV but I really don't have the time or desire to do so. I would prefer not to spend a couple hundred bucks on a design defect only to have it do the same thing "in a few more years." Is there anything you can do to help? Thanks, GEorge

You can contact our customer relations dept at (800) 252-5722. I know of no TV defect issues on any one model in my time here in Houston Service. Although it may seem to be a problem on line...you need to understand that millions of TV's are sold and 10 people writing with a similar problem may seem like alot but really is not in the complete scheme of things. You are speaking of a power problem. That can come from several sources and it would be impossible to say for sure what caused it or where it is occuring within the unit without checking it out first. We cannot diagnose over the phone. If the TV was part of a defect issue I doubt it would have lasted 4-5 years considering the power the TV stores even when not on or being used. Something as small as a capacitor can be the problem or as much as the power supply..not to mention anything in between. You did not say where you were but if you were in Houston we would charge an eval fee of $50/tax to look at it. Most TV repairs run approx $85-$120 average...only more on rare occasions. I am sorry if you are looking for details on what is wrong, but I doubt any service center for any company could give that info to you over the phone without looking at it. It would be like a doctor diagnosing over the phone if you have a rash. Where are you located?

anonymous - 19th Feb 2004 5:31 Stacey,
My comments came from the fact problems found on this series of TV all had the exact same symptom.
If you do a google search on AV 28 - 36 inch 980 series everything points to no power. I only saw 10 postings on line. That certainly does not point to the hundreds of TV's repaired off line.
I am in San Diego
- JVC service or questions Stacy Sample - 19th Feb 2004 16:29
Since I have not seen the on-line info..I guess it would be unfair for me to comment further. I do know however that I have yet to see any certain model TV come in to Houston with the problems you speak of nor seen any memo's of such problems for a series of models.
Unfortunately we do not have a direct service facility in the San Diego area. I can check for the closest place if you provide your zip code.

Tom Pajewski - 17th Jul 2004 21:40 Had the same problem with my JVC-32980.
Working one day, next day nothing.
changed out C926 with a 1000uF 35V capacitor that I bought at Radio Shack for $1.49. TV works like a champ. Took all of 20 minutes to fix.

Just wanted to add my posting to the list of 10. Bought my JVC AV-27985 new 2 years ago, though the set was actually manufactured 6 years ago. Worked fine--then one day no power. Where's the nearest JVC service facility to my Tracy, CA 93577 zip code area, between Stockton and the SF Bay Area?

I had the same problem that numerous people on this forum have complained about with my JVC-36-980. Would not power up. I followed the advice that was suggested in the forum to swap out the 1000uF 35V capacitor. Set now works great. It is a very simple fix and is worth trying before calling a service repair man. I am far from an electronics wiz and I had no problem replacing this capacitor on the circuit board The capacitor is located at C926. I am not saying that this will fix all power up problems but there appears to be a problem that is occuring with the xx980 series after about a 5 year period with this capacitor. JVC should have a recall on this and fix the part. I wonder how much money has been charged by repairmen over the years to make this simple fix ? I think I have bought my last JVC. Thanks to the internet I have saved a couple hundred dollars.

NJ Consumer - 13th Feb 2005 22:22 Hi,
I performed the fix recommended in Tom Pajewski's 7-17-04 post after my JVC TV wouldn't turn on. After the fix, the TV works great! I'm not definitely calling it planned obsolesence, but I can't shake the feeling that's what it is since my problem was exactly the same as the others after the same amount of time (about 5 years). I can understand that JVC wants to try to maximize their profits by having people bring their malfunctioning electronics to them for repair, however, they will end up losing business if they aren't going to provide quality products and support to the consumers.

I had the same problem with my 1998 36980 JVC TV and replaced the capacitor this morning and it works fine again. It took me less than a half hour. After removing the TV's back cover I disconnected the wires from one of the speakers so I could slide the circuit board out and turn it on end. I found the C926 capacitor and melted the solder to remove the old one. Inserted the new one, soldered the contacts at the bottom of the circuit board, snipped the extra wire, inserted the circuit board, connected the speaker again, and replaced the back of the TV. Works like new and the capacitor was $1.59 at Radio Shack. Thanks to this board I saved a repair bill and the hassle of taking the TV to a repair place.
- Re[4]: JVC service or questions Mike G - 8th Jan 2006 1:50
I had the same problem, but when replacing the bad capacitor make sure you have the positive and negative lined up correctly. My circuit board wasnt labeled, and I took off the old one before checking. I had to take a 50/50 gamble when replacing the new one, and lost. After pluggin in the TV, the new capacitor blew its top like a Raid Roach Fogger. I had to go back to Radio Shack to get a new one, which I replaced in the opposite way. It worked fine. Hope this helps others as much as you guys helped me!

Keith Lambright - 19th Jan 2006 4:18 My 7 year old AV36980 just stopped coming on today and searching the web for JVC service information I fortunately came across this forum. I found C926 bulging as described, took a quick trip to Radio Shack, paid my $1.75, replaced the cap and voila, the TV powered right up. The internet is awesome!

I have a JVC AV-32980 that is about 6 years old. Same thing... my power wouldn't come on. I Googled JVC TV service, found this thread, and went to Radio Shack.
I bought the capacitor before even opening my TV (My trust in you was well placed!). When I opened the TV I discovered that there are TWO TYPES OF CAPACITORS that meet the 100M/35V specification. One is coaxial connection (wire coming out of each end of the cylinder). The other is radial connection (two wires coming out of each end).
MAKE SURE TO BUY THE CAPACITOR WITH THE TWO WIRES COMING OUT OF THE SAME END OF THE CYLINDER... I.E. CAPACITOR WITH RADIAL CONNECTION). I removed the old capacitor, went back to Radio Shack to get a new one with the right type of connection, and POOF>>> $1.17 and 20 Minutes later my TV is working again. THANKS GUYS!!!
(Too bad JVC refuses to acknowledge the problem... Note to self...:)

Replaced C296 as indicated by Tom P. (Thanks) and it also fixed my JVC AV27980. This is the second time I have had problems with JVC products with little to no support. This will be the last time I buy JVC.

Tony - 28th Oct 2006 20:18 I had the same problem as everybody else. Last night the TV worked, today nothing. I've got a 27" JVC that we bought in 1995. For $10 at Radio Shack, because I didn't have a soldering iron, and a half hour of work, I'm back to watching football. Thanks a lot to the people on this forum.

I have a JVC Model AV-32850. I was having trouble sometimes with the T.V I would turn off the T.V. and it would turn back on. This was happening ocassionally over time until finially, a couple of days ago it just went off by itself and the T.V. was black and the red timer on button just kept blinking and making a ticking noise. I got on google and read all the e-mails with people having the same problem. I went to radio shack, bought the 1000uf 35v capacitor for $1.69. I took off the back of the T.V. Unplug first!!!! Slid out the circut board, located the C926 caacitor, (it was located next to the C928), I vacummed all the dust from inside of the T.V. My brother desoldered the c-926, and I pulled out the capacitor with needle nose pliers, put the capacitor in, (Mine had both wires coming out of the same end) (Cut the wires) with wire cutters, he soldered it and we plugged the T.V. in and it started right up. I can't beleive it!!! Saved me alot of money and time. The negative wire had a picture of a hollow battery on the side of the capacitor. The bottom of the board had the positive marked. We never did this before, it took a total of a half hour to do. The capacitor is located just to the right of the center(looking from behind) It was the smaller of the 2 capacitorS, The 1000uf 35v was slightly larger then the one I replaced but worked fine. The hardest thing was locating the c-926. It was in front of a round looking white spool.(lOOKING FROM THE BAK OF THE t.v.) The c-926 is a round cylinder shaped like a small AA battery. but only 1/4 it's side. HOPE THIS IS HELPFUL TO ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. Thank You Tom P for helping out.

ADD ANOTHER ONE TO THE LIST! I have the same JVC TV I purchased at Circuit City in
Massachusetts about 6 years ago. I came home from a week long Vacation and the blasted thing would not power up. I unplugged the TV, let it sit for a while, plugged it back in, and I noticed that it emitted several high frequency sounds, like it was re-attempting to be charged up. I called several TV repair shops in my area, which quoted me prices between $25 to $50 to look at it. With a little bit of internet searching, I came across this thread. I followed the same steps as mentioned in the previous postings, and VOILA ! Issue resolved.
I would warn others that decide to attempt this to BE VERY CAUTIOUS, however. I'm not sure of the specifics of these particular series of TV sets, but in general, there are large main filter capacitors in sets that can store large voltage charges for several days.

Jason H - 2nd Jul 2006 1:39 Hello, I just had a 1999 JVC AV-36980 36" TV given to me because it would not turn on. I actually loaded it up to go to the TV repair shop when I thought to check the net for any tips. To make a long story short, I received a working 36" tv for about 15 minutes work and $2.00. Great Site. Thanks!

Jeff - 12th Mar 2007 19:32 ADD ME TO THE LIST!! God I love the internet! My AV32980 quit working just like all the others on this forum. Working fine, then all of the sudden, boom, won't turn on. I was literally looking through the yellow pages to decide which repair shop to take it to, when I decided to just check the internet for any tips on repairing a JVC TV. Found this forum, read the other problem descriptions just like mine, figured that had to be it. In 45 minutes I went to Radio Shack, bought the 1000uf capacitor, got into the TV chassis, found the cap, de-soldered it, soldered in the new one, and walla! Working fine now. Forums like this are just an incredible resource for the folks. Obviously I would NEVER have even begun to know where to look for the problem without this help. Here's a little more info for those who follow: The capacitor you will find at Radio Shack is an AXIAL LEAD type, meeaning it has a wire lead coming out of each end of the device. The capacitor you will take out of the TV is a RADIAL LEAD type, meaning it has both leads coming out of one end. Don;t let this difference bother you. Just bend the leads so they will fit into the hole spacing on the PCB and position the new cap. nice and snug down. The capacitor is marked with which lead is negative. The board is marked with which hole is positive. As long as you get the polarity right the new style will work fine. Also, as suggested in this forum I went ahead and bought the 50 volt capacitor, hoping it will last longer. Seems to work fine so I would suggest that for others. It cost $2.59 instead of $1.69 for the 35v.

I also have a av27980 and a av32980 that wouldn't power on . they charge me $$140 to fix each one. I wish I would of know about your planed obsolessence trouble with c926. How do I get compensated for my expense? Are you expecting me to buy another JVC product?

Number Cruncher - 24th Dec 2005 0:43 I seem to be having the same problem with my 32 inch JVC. I just ran down to radio shack and bought the capacitor. It is true that 10 comments doesn't mean much out of millions of owners - however when you type your JVC model number into google and this is the "ONLY" problem that pops up - that means something to me. And I am "blessed" with a PhD in statistics - I can lie with best of them. I'll have my son install the capacitor tomorrow.

- Re[4]: JVC service or questions
Number Cruncher - 28th Oct 2006 23:06 OK - follow-on reply just for the record. My TV first failed Around Sept 2006 -I did the capacitor fix and it lasted about 9 months. I replaced the capacitor again this time but the problem still wasn't fixed. TV would not turn on. This time I went to the repairman and spent $180 for a fix - something to do with the power regulator. Brought the set home and it worked. But after about a few hours if you shut it off - the tv would not turn on again. If you unplugged it and let if cool off for a few hours then replugged it would turn on again. I took it back to the repairman again - they agreed to make good on the fix for no additional money. Apparently the power regulator fried again (at least that's what I think I heard). So they sent the board back to JVC for them to fix it. I picked it up today and all is well. I asked the repairman what the fix was but he said he didn't know - JVC just fixes the board and sends it back. Next time this fails that will be the end of it. This thing is too heavy to keep carting back and forth to the repairman.

Steve C. - 30th Jan 2006 23:46 My JVC AV-36980 is only 5/6 years old with the same power-on problem. I just fixed it by replacing the C926 capacitor too. But I couldn't get the 1000uF 35V capacitor. Instead I used the 1000uF one with 50V. Seems to be OK so far.

db from new york - 13th Apr 2006 0:39 Stephanie, today I had same exact problem. Black large rectangle on picture tube that won't go away. I saw your query and was myself hoping that someone replied to your question. However, there were no replies. I was desperate and almost dumped our 32" set for garbage pick-up a few moments ago.
But, I combed many sites and found the solution below. The television now works perfect. Follow the steps below. It should work. Post a reply if this works for you.
Best Regards
db from new york
I get a big black square box covering 90% of my picture.
This is a function of the closed caption circuit available for future use called text mode. Simply press close the caption button on the TV remote until the square disappears. If your TV doesn’t have the closed caption button on the remote you will need to do the following:
1. Bring up the menu and highlight closed caption.
2. Press the Volume + button to access this menu.
3. When you enter this menu it will say Mode Text.
4. Press the Volume + button until it says Mode Off.
5. Then press the Channel – button and highlight Finish.
6. Then press the Volume + button to save your settings.

mabel - 24th Oct 2006 20:46 Hi! We have the same problem after we moved to our new house last aug 2006. My husband accepted it as unrepairable thinking it was mishandled while we are moving. So it means he is decided to buy a new tv, spending money again. Today my daughter is absent from school and stayed home coz she is not feeling well. She's watching a movie even the screen is 90% covered with black, so it's like she is just listening to a story from radio. It is not acceptable to me, so i went to google and type the problem and this comes up!!! I printed your instructions and followed it. Good enough and the tv is now working perfectly!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and action. I believe more people will benefit your kindness in sharing it!
God bless you.

Well...another success story on replacing C926 on my JVC 36980. I know they've said that millions of these sets have been sold and the reported defects are insignificant but I'm now a contributor to the statistics that say JVC had an inherent long term defect. If your set won't turn on and your technically inclined, try replacing a $2 capacitor (C926 - 1000uf @ 35volts) and see what happens.

Mike - 28th Mar 2006 11:23 I definately appreciate the tip. It fixed my AV-3570. I intially called a repair shop and they quoted approx 225.00 for the fix, when they came to the house I was then quoted 375.00. less than 2.00 and about 20 minutes time, you guys are my heroes.
- Re[4]: JVC service or questions Mike - 15th May 2006 13:44
I have now had the problem twice and the fix has worked both times. Both instances, i was away for several days (ie no tv use) and i noticed another posting mentioning that it was when they returned from vacation. Perhaps it has something to do with capacitors discharging. Next time i am away, i think who ever I have coming over to feed the cats and pick up the mail, i will also get them to turn the tv on momentarily.

Hugh - 23rd Jun 2006 14:45 I have this same model AV-27980 left behind by my son when he moved to the Big City. The first time it died (just would not come on all of a sudden) we found it was still under an extended warranty. I love to stick it to Future Shop, so it was repaired under warranty about 2 years ago. 2 days ago the same problem. It would not come on! I googled the model number and came up with this site, replaced C926 and it is working again! Now if I can only find such an easy solution for my Proscan 32800....
My thanks to the sponsors and contributors of info to the site for the info!

Adam Rea - 23rd Jun 2006 17:31 Just had an AV-27850 (for google, I'll add AV27850) pull up dead. Searched, found this site, ran to radio shack and -presto- TV works again. I am absolutely astonished that, with this many identical failures, JVC doesn't admit a design fault. I am an Electrical Engineer and would be embarassed by an obvious design failure like this. BTW, the 1000uF cap is still C926 in the 850 series as well and it is located near the middle of the board (a little to the right of center when looking from the rear of the TV). There is a + indicator on the bottom of the PCB if you don't pay attention to how the cap came out ;) . Also, my cap didn't look puckered at all and there was no discoloration on the board itself, but it was obviously the problem. Give this fix a whirl even if you think the cap looks good.

Peter - 29th Jun 2006 1:22 Thanks to everyone for the advice. My AV27980, manufactured and purchased in 1999, has exactly the same problem. One night working fine, then the next morning would not turn on. I heard a strange sound, which I thought might be a capacitor charging and discharging (tough to describe on the internet, but kind of like peyouw, peyouw, peyouw, peyouw... )
I'll have my technician friend replace the capacitor that has been mentioned. It certainly seems like JVC has a recurring problem here.

God Bless you guys
My neighbor was throwing away a JVC AV-36980, and being a packrat i took it from him NO CHARGE. Needless to say my wife was miffed with me brining home more "junk". Anyway i removed the back and started testing things to no avail. went on line, found you,ran my finger on top of C926, felt slight bulge, went to radio shack and replace the capacitor, plug it in and presto Now my Wife has a brand new 36" working t.v.
Again after reading all the posts i can't believe that thesae tvs last only 3-5 years i thought jvc was a top of the line brand, but now i feel different and won't buy anything from them. OK enough babble THANX AGAIN FOR SAVING THE GENERAL PUBLIC $100 - $200

Count me in as another $3 fix for the AV-36980 unit. I also replaced C926 capacitor and immediately corrected power-on problem. I went with the 50V Radio Shack part instead of 35v. Part number 272-1047 and price under $3. Hardest part of project was getting my wife to hold the flashlight steady. I hope to get another few years out of this 7 year old 36" heavyweight.

Marcus H - 9th Aug 2006 22:08 Went to bed last night with my JVC AV-36980 working just fine. Tried to turn it on today at around noon and NOTHING. Tried unplugging it plugging it back in and nothing. I'm an Electrical Engineer but did not want any part of taking this monster apart and troubleshooting it. I called a local(Louisville, KY) TV repair place and they said they charge $50.00 to pick it up and around $100.00 to fix and another $50.00 to bring it back. I got on the internet and found this site. I went to Radio Shack and picked up the 1000uf 35V capacitor and within 30 minutes of getting home with it my TV is working again. The part cost $1.59. The hardest part of the whole process was getting the cover back on the back of the TV by myself. In retrospect I would have gotten a 1000uf 50V capacitor instead of the 35V to prevent this from happening again. Thanks to all of you out there who posted on this site with a "fairly" simple fix if you are at all mechanically and electrically inclined. Sometimes having a common problem that a lot of people are having is better than having some rare one that would have required a visit to the repair shop.

Same problem here, I wish somebody could do a pictured Step by Step website on this. I am going to attempt this fix myself tomorrow. Thank you all that have taken the time to post this stuff.

Jeff - 14th Mar 2007 16:38 ADD ME TO THE LIST!!

David E - 20th May 2007 3:33 I also had the same issue of no power with my JVC AV-36980 (1998 model). Thanks to these messages I was able to fix my TV. Saved me a lot of headaches and money in trying to move the set as well as repair $.
To reiterate a previous email "MAKE SURE TO BUY THE CAPACITOR WITH THE TWO WIRES COMING OUT OF THE SAME END OF THE CYLINDER... I.E. CAPACITOR WITH RADIAL CONNECTION)". I initially bought the axial version but adjusting the wire didn't help. I went back and got the radial version and that worked like a charm. Also, I had never soldered before but had the job done in 15 minutes. So it's not a tough task to take on.
Thanks everyone.

Steve S - 20th May 2007 15:30 This information proved valuable. My JVC-36980 was manufactured in November 1998. It had the same symptoms as the other readers. No indications of a problem, then one day last week after the set was working fine, it did not power on. I purchased the C926 radial capacitor from Radio Shack and replaced it myself. The set is now working fine. My tip for this repair is to disconnect three plug in connectors on the front of the motherboard, then turn the chassis 90 degrees on its side, (left side from rear, facing down). I did not disconnect all other plugins to the picture tube, as it was too daunting a task for an amateur like me. Thanks to all for the input in this forum.

Had my JVC AV 27985 in Sept. 1988.Was working fine, then suddenly got no power when I turned it on last July 2004. TV was manufactured June 1998,in Mexico. This is not normal since I have a 14"magnasonic and 21" RCA TVs which I had since 1991 and still working fine. There must be a factory defect on this TV model.JVC should look into this and make a recall. Our common problem- No Power as if the TV was unplugged.I call on JVC management to be responsible enough to find out this defect.
- Re: Re: JVC service or questions Rodger - 21st Sep 2004 23:41
I bought my JVC AV 27985 in Calgary,Alberta, Canada whose defect I mentioned earlier in my previous comment. No Power ,as if the unit is not plugged in.

Hi i am working on the following if any one knows about the repairs
jvc M.NO: av-27985
Chassis: a 68
Tv is dead as if no power
please let me know what to look for
thanks
- Re[4]: JVC service or questions Manjit - 18th Aug 2006 23:12
My tv was not dead but kept clicking on and off. I replace one capacitor 1000MFD and 35volts. It is located close to power supply wire on the chesis. It cost me only buck and half for the capacitor. I think you try to change your capacitor. Mechanic was asking $140 for repair. Good luck.

Thanks to tom Pajaewski for sharing his JVC TV experience with us. For those who have the same no Power problem on JVC AV 27985, It\'s the power switch component- C926 ( 1000uf 35 Capacitor) at the center front end of the TV\'s chassis near the big white rectangular Resistor. But let an experience elec. technician to do the replacement due to the TV\'s High voltage danger even when unplug. Good luck!
- Re: Re: Re: JVC service or questions
Keith - 25th Oct 2004 2:16 THANK YOU, Tom Pajaewski! My JVC AV-36980 stopped working - no power. On a call to a JVC certified repair shop, they told me they're not sure what the problem could be, but I would be looking at $300-400 repair.
I replaced the C926 capacitor for under 2 dollars and now it works like a charm!
Sounds like JVC indeed does have a problem with these models.
Many thanks to this helpful board!

Keith B - 21st Jan 2005 6:07 Like everyone else, all of a sudden my AV-36980 just quit working. Hit the power button and nothing happens. I haven't tried he Pajaewski fix, but plan to. There is a consistent defect as my TV was purchased 4.5 years ago as well... Keith B

what do i ask for at radio shack to replace the c926?
- Re[4]: JVC service or questions
HD - 8th May 2005 19:28 My AV 36980 wouldn't come back on after a power outage. Just completely dead. I tried the Tom P fix, replacing the c-926 cap. It didn't work though.
The fuse was fine.I did notice the cap wasn't as close to the white rectangular resistor as was described. Is there maybe another "power supply component" cap that I need to look at since this was a diff model than Tom P's?
Thanks in advance for anyone's replies. HD.

Gentlemen: My 1999 JVC MX-J30 Serial 124C2803 began buzzing on switch on and the tape recorder has stopped functioning. My local technician wants a repair charge equal to the cost of my system, almost $200, purchased at Fred Meyers, here in Eugene OR. This is a splendid compact stereo system which I would like to have repaired within reason. Please let me know how to have my MX-J30 fairly serviced. Sincerely, Bob Rosen 4431 Fox Hollow Road #2 Eugene, OR Phone: 541-338-0247

William Baxter - 8th Oct 2004 4:00 We have had our Jvc TV less than ayear and have had to have a tech look at it because it won't power up. After having it fixed once , in two weeks it did the same thing .YOu can take your JVC TV and shove it . I won't purchase another one .
- Re[2]: JVC service or questions Ken - 12th Jul 2006 5:00
Well I just tried changing the part mentioned and mine didn't work the magic like everyone else. I was hoping I had the same problem since this sounds exactly like what it was. My 36980 just stopped working one day and does nothing but make a clicking noise. It's a steady click, anyone have a clue?
- Re[3]: JVC service or questions Bill Elkins - 6th Dec 2006 16:18
Ken, I know it has been awhile, but did you ever find out what was wrong or causing your problemm with your JVC TV? I have been trying to figure out a very similar problem on mine.

- Re[2]: JVC service or questions
Daries - 1st Oct 2006 21:13 I've got an 1998 AV-36980 that had the same problem. It was fine when I went to bed, but in the morning it wouldn't power on. I googled this type of tv and the problem which led me to this message board. I hoped that this was the problem. I pulled the circuit board out and C926 was bulging on both the bottom and top. I replaced it with one that I bought at Radio Shack for $1.70 and the TV turned on immediately. I'm 52 years old and have never messed with a circuit board, but this was an easy fix because of this message board. Thanks everyone.
- Re[3]: JVC service or questions George - 1st Oct 2006 23:03
The orignal fix that I mentioned used a 35V capacitor - that was the OEM design. My TV went out again after about a year. I replaced the cap with two 50V caps in parallel (to get the same capacitance value as he original design) and have not had any trouble since then. If yours goes out again - beef up the voltage handling of the caps. seems there is an inrush of current that may be too high for this cap (a poor design)
George
- Re[4]: JVC service or questions
Paul - 17th May 2007 3:04 While there was probably no harm in putting two capacitors in parallel, this is not the same capacitance. It is double the capacitance. Using a 50V unit accomplishes your goal of increasing the service factor.
