JVC repair assistance
Stacy Sample - 28th Jan 2004 22:11
If there is no tape in the unit and it is not accepting the tape in...I believe you need it looked at. If the mechanism (tape basket) is not engaging and you have reset the camcorder by removing & re-attaching the power source, then you have done all you can do in regards to troubleshooting. How old is your camcorder and where are you located?

Jeff - 10th Sep 2004 8:13 Do you work on JVC mini dv camcorders. My tape will not retract into the body. I believe it is a GRDVL 310U. I would be open to sending you the camera to work on if possible-thanks, Jeff

melvy_garcia - 25th Sep 2004 11:58 I am having trouble getting a picture on my camcorder (jvc GR-D70U). When I turn it on I only see black through the lens and/or through the screen. It looks like the cap is still on the lens. I can not understand what is going on. I have had it for a little over a year and have already had to have it fixed. I thought I could get some advise from someone in hopes that it is a simple something that I am doing wrong and not an expensive problem that I have to get fixed. PLEASE HELP

I have exactly the same symptoms with my JVC GR-D30 that I have had for exactly 1 year. No image on the screen or the viewfinder and a flashing "lens cap" message at power up. It records audio but no video. Playback of a previously recorded tape works fine. If anyone has the answer please advize.

I also have the same symptoms with my JVC GR-SXM250U camcorder. I've had it for a year. No image on monitor or view finder. displays same (lens cap )message when powering up, records only audio, and playback of a previous recorded tape works fine. If anyone has the answer please advise.

I am having the same problem with a JVC digital camcorder, model#: GR-D30U.
It plays tapes and but does not show me a picture in record(camera mode). I have tired to see if it records audio(only). If it does, that would indicate to me that the video chip is fried(broken, out for the count). I think it was left on for an extended period of time and the video chip can not handle the heat generated by the camercorder being on(bad cooling or none at all in the design). I briefly looked through the manual and it doesn't seem to say anything about leaving the camera on for an extended time. I will double check that warning, to see if it is written. If not JVC sounds like they need to apologize and get $$ back or repair(with warning) to consumer/purchasers of these products.
I also have a Samsung digital camcorder, model#: SCD23, that is showing the same symptoms. yeah for me, broken, cheap technology, that cost alot(at least a little lot).
I am planning to go to a repair soon with these two camcorders to see what they say about their problems. I wish I could get a parts/service manual. I'm technically handy and would be possibly able to put a new video chip in myself, if I had the manuals. Opening a camcorder like this without tech. specs. can be pretty hopeless and having the repair shop do it is probably not worth the cost of a new camcorder.
sooo... luck to us all
let me know if anything develops with this issue.
JK

Sandman - 10th Feb 2006 23:36 JVC has a CCD corrective action program. They fixed mine for free even though it is years out of warranty. I called 1-800-252-5722 and they told me to send it to JVC SERVICE & ENGINEERING with a letter containing my name, address, phone number, and description of the problem -- that the error message displays "lens cap" even when the cap is off. They will give you the address for the nearest repair center to you. Evidently they are acknowledging the problem and fixing them.

Is this something I can fix, I am pretty handy with electronics. I just don't want to send it to a repair center and have to pay more then the camera is actually worth. Thanks for any help. -Justin

Yes I can confirm that the problem with your camera is a common problem that affects a number of JVC models of camcorders. The fault is the main CCD (Charge coupled device)this is the main imagining unit that sits at the back of the lens, when replaced you will have to setup the camera such as flangeback adjustments (back focus),image white balance etc.Hope info helps kind regards John Williams www.jvsvisual.com
- Re[2]: JVC repair assistance John Williams - 26th Nov 2007 14:31
Sorry I forgot to mention about repair costs to JVC camcorders with CCD failure (fault says remove lens cap) we charge a fix fee of £80.00 inc parts this however excludes carriage charges.

I have a new JVC GR DX307 camcorder bought a week ago Sep.2004. I am having trouble loading the software for the PC Win xp pro. I get an error message saying "the third party INF does not contain digital signature information"! AND JVC PIX-MCV audio capture has not passed windows logo testing to verify its comatability with WinXP. The latter one I simply click proceed but I think the driver for the camera is not loading for some reason! Is there any patches out there I need to load or should I be looking else where? Please help if you can! Regards Brian

I also have that same problem along with a very annoying static sound when I AM ABLE to use the camera. It chooses when it will let me record and when it won't. Technical Supoort was useless and just referred me to a repair technician. blah blah blah
Where's more information on the class-action law suit? I'd love to add my name to that list!!
