I have a JVC Digital Video Camera....have owned it less than three years. Modedl GR-D90u. Every time I turn it on after a few minutes the screen displays something like Precipitation detected. After it set for several days I can use it but only for a few minutes. Since I have many Mini DV cassettes I would like to copy to DVD's or to my computer this is very discouraging. What can you tell me. I have left the camera out of the case with the tape area open for several hours thinking the moisture would disipate...but no luck. Please tell me what I can do.
- Re[2]: JVC service or questions
Helpful w JVC - 21st May 2006 22:16 Contact JVC for service. Ask if they can check the sensor at the back of the tape mechanism. That repair should be about 1 hour to 1.5 hours of labor to remove and replace the part. I am not sure what the part cost is but see if they can help you buy discounting it. It never hurts to ask.

Richard Meszaros - 15th May 2006 16:08 Dear Stacy:
I bought a JVC DVD/VCR recorder and player, model number DR-MV1S, from Conn's back in February 2005. The unit worked well initially until November 2005 at which time the unit repeatedly went into the "loading mode" and got stuck there when turning the until on. When the unit appeared to be working, green bands or "snow" would display on the screen when trying to play back a recording. I took the unit back to Conn's and they sent it to their service center in San Antonio. Conn's replaced the unit with a new one that November. I was informed that there was some defect in the circuitry and would be covered under the manufacturer's warranty.
The new unit played well from November 2005 (when I received it) until February 2006 when I started having early signs of similar problems. Several recording failures with DVD-R discs started to occur, a problem not previously encountered. When I switched to DVD-RW discs, the problem disappeared. Later on, the unit began to repeatedly lock into the "loading mode" when turning it on. Only by unplugging the unit or waiting excessively long periods of time would the unit correct itself. Other times during a recording the unit would, out of nowhere, stop recording and go into the "loading mode" again. These problems did not occur every time when operating the unit only from time to time but on a regular basis.
In March I took this unit back to Conn's asking them to check it out since I was experiencing similar problems as with the original unit. I had to pay $32.42 to have their service center in San Antonio look at it this time. I had not taken out an extended warranty with Conn's. I was told that they could not find anything wrong with the unit and it was returned to me. The technician who worked on the unit was Randy (800) 379-9809 x-3250. Randy did solder some connections that may have possibly been loose, but generally he could find nothing wrong with the unit.
Upon return of the unit, I am still experiencing problems with it getting stuck in the "loading mode." This can only be resolved when the unit is repeatedly unplugged and plugged back in several times at which time it goes through "auto programming" before it appears to be working. During play back, it will work fine for a while only to have green colored bands begin to appear on the TV screen which progressively only get worse to the point where you can not view the recording. The unit then stops play back and goes into "loading". One has to unplug and plug in the unit to correct this at which time it will "load" again and play for a while only to repeat the problem again.
I called Randy, (Conn's service center) back to inform him of the problems that I am still experiencing with the unit. He suggested at this point that I attempt to contact JVC regarding the tremendous frustration that I am have with this product. He did mention that JVC was having some problems with the earlier manufactured units like my original one, but the replacement unit that I have now has the corrected components. I am having some doubts regarding this considering the problems that I am still experiencing.
I searched the web and found your web site and thought I would inquire with you. I bought this JVC product thinking it was one of the top-of-the-line units out there at the time, but it has only been problems of unreliability and frustration ever since. Can you help or provide some advise or assistance in getting this issue resolved with JVC?

- Re[2]: JVC service or questions DRMV1 "Loading" Message
Helpful w JVC - 21st May 2006 22:21 Richard,
Contact JVC at (800) 252-5722. They have been doing upgrades to this model line for awhile now for the "Loading" message. Have your purchase information ready when you contact them and ask them where you can send it for repair/upgrade The dealers do not do the upgrades, just the factory service centers.

Biswajit Dutta Baruah - 15th May 2006 17:33 What is the lens cap error all about and how do I go about rectifying it??
I recieved a JVC camcorder as a gift about a year back form my brother inlaw. It worked fine initially. And I even shot a few videos with it. Suddenly about two days back when I opened it up it wouldn't work. A black screen would display on the LCD with the flashing message: LENS CAP ERROR. I thought maybe the battery is worn out. So I charged it up. But still the same message. So I searched down the net until I came across this site. I found out that this error message was common with many models of JVC camcorders and that the company was repairing it free of charge.
Problems that are specific to me: 1. The camera was bought by my BIL in the US and I stay in India. So which repair centre do I contact. Can I have it repaired locally in India free of cost or do I have to send it to the US centre only?? 2. The warranty period is over so can I still have it repaired free of cost since it is a manufacturing defect? 3. Does my BIL have to be involved as it was he who bought the camera and not me? I don't want to trouble him if it is not possible.

I moved my Mastercommand TV today. There was a JVS VHS HR-D660U attached. In movement, a cable (I assume it is the cable that feeds the cablevision from the VHS to the TV. The cablevision cable coming from the wall goes in the VSH.) Now I can get the picture but not the sound. Can you tell me what to do? Many thanks. Nellie

Senita - 16th May 2006 22:40 i have a black display on on my lcd screen as well as my view finder. I am at my witts end with this.
- Re[2]: JVC service or questions
Helpful w JVC - 21st May 2006 22:32 Senita,
Since you did not give what model of camcorder you have, I am assuming you are getting a lens cap error on your camcorder in record mode.
Go to JVC.com > service & support > customer notifications and click on the CCD notification. IF your model # is listed on that screen, you are entitled to a free repair. IF your model is not listed, there may be another issue causing your problem and you will need to call (800) 252-5722 to get the problem addressed by JVC.
