I have a sony camera as well and had pictured that i hadnt yet loaded into my computer. After getting a format error and being unable to view my pictures both on the camera and on the computer i downloaded a free program from download.com called "art plus digital recovery 2.3"
I was able to recover almost all of my pictures. After that just use the camera to reformat the memory card. Good luck.

    Dear Friends
I've got this error after my Cyber Shot DSC-M2 to fall in the soil.
I can take the pictures as usual, but when I try to get movies this error appears.
Here in Brazil, when I looked for the technical support to fix the problem, they say that need to wait about almost 3 months to get the Schema (or diagram) of the MSC-M2 from Sony. They also don't know if the problem can be with the mother board...
    Thanks in advance
    Denise

    Hello,
Exactly the same problem I faced.I have sandisk Memory stick Pro in my P73 Sony camera.Even my Sony laptop couldn't recognise memory stick.

Then I cleaned the connector part of memory stick and formatted the stick using the camera and result is brilliant.Memory stick started working as earlier.

Hello, Problem: I also got the C:13:01 error after inserting newly bought SONY Memory Stick Pro Duo into my sony V-1 camera. Cause: But in my case the problem was caused by the adaptor from MS Duo to MS (from this small cards to a bit larger ones). The inner connectors simply didnt connect properly, or not all of them. Solution: The solution was to open the adaptor (quite easy - it's all plastic case) and bend the connectors a bit so after inserting the smaller MS Duo they will stick more firmly. Now it works perfectly with both camera and PC. (btw. dont drop or hit or be cruel in other ways to your camera. It was made in Japan, not Russia, and sooner or later this will harm it) Hope this helps those of you who use MS Duo through an adaptor. Final conclusion: very sad, that original SONY Memory Stick with original SONY adaptor (in my case MSAC-M2) does not work with original SONY camera.

My wife of one year had a Mavica MVC-FD90 in the closet. She never used it and I thought I could. I bought a floppy to memory stick adaptor, off Ebay for more capacity. It came with a 4 meg stick. It worked great. I wanted to grow my memory stick spares and bought 3-32 meg sticks off Ebay. Then I got the C:13:01 error. I read somewhere on one of the discussion boards about replacing the button batteries in the Floppy adaptor. CR2016. This did the trick and I inserted the 32 meg stick, formatted it with the camera's format tool and all 3 sticks are working fine. Hope this helps ! Don

Just wanted to say thank you! I tried a lot of different things to get this thing working and was ready to throw this thing against the wall! Your trick worked, thanks so much.

I have a dsc717 from 2002. It went all around the world and was great until Madrid 2004. Since then I have had this dreadful problem.

I have tried Pc formatting the cards and quick format. The camera works fine indoors. However when i go out, this is not the case. Doesn't matter which of my five cards i use or if the weather is cold or hot outside, it fails to work. As soon as i am indoors the error disappears.

I have checked the PINS and they are fine.

Hence i believe it is a humidity/temperature problem(funnily enough i smoke 60 a day and this doesn't affect this piece of electronics)

It is a shame that SONY have never acknowlegded this problem and it reoccurs with all newer models. Otherwise i would have recommended that their cameras are probably the best between amateur and pro.

However their Vaios are the most overpriced crap which will not last longer than 12 months. I own 2 dead ones - never again.

    DO NOT BUY SONY

only 2 days after I started to use my sony 1gb memory stick pro, I got this message from my camera. it was weird that it happened only in 1 minute. I took one picture and closed the camera, and 1 minute later when I opened it to take another picture, I saw the message. some programs which I used to rescue the photos in the stick claimed that the stick has a space of only 512 bytes! and there is nothing in it! I want to rescue my photos in the stick. do you think is there any chance or way? any suggestions will be appreciated, thanx.

Hi. Just read your question about th3 C-13-01 format error message on a Sony H1. I've just had the same problem after taking about 200 photos at an important event. Did you ever manage to find a programme, or some way of rescuing your photos ???

unfortunately I couldn't find any solutions yet. now that I think I'd better bring the stick to an authorized Sony agent. any kind of help here will still be appreciated though :)
