I JUST got this error after using my 5 year old Sony F717 for an evening. I took quite a few photos, most in rapid succession. I had been using the nightshot feature, and had tunred off the shutter sound effect as this seems to actually speed up the cameras recycle time.

Suddenly it stopped working. I had 3 memory cards with me, and none of them would work with my camera. However, the cards still worked in my PSP. The data was visible when the PSP was connected to my computer.

After reading this forum (thanks to everyone who posted), and after trying several solutions with no success, I tried:

Pressing the card FIRMLY INTO THE SLOT, and TURNING THE CAMERA on while STILL HOLDING THE CARD IN AS FAR AS IT WOULD GO. I also gave a FIRM, WELL PLACED TAP WITH THE PALM OF MY HAND to the body of the camera.

I am not sure if it was the tap (or perhaps smack might be a better term) or the pressured insertion of the card. Regardless, the CAMERA WORKED immediately after.

I hope this helps to anyone else who has been able to confirm it is the camera, and not the cards. Thanks to all contributors.

hey i found a solution - go to menu and then go to setup
then go to the memory stick tool section and go to format
it then asks " all data in memory stick will be erased. ready?"
    then oyu hit ok
    it will say "format completed"
sorry guys but to get rid of this problem you have to erase all of your pictures =(
i had really good pictures on my camera and i had to erase them all
    o well

I had this problem with my DSC-P73 Sony Cybershot. I wanted to use a 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (using an adapter to fit my camera), but my camera would display the C:13:01 error. So I did the eraser trick (cleaned the memory stick gold-plated contacts AND the adapter contacts too) and it worked perfectly. =)

And I also formatted the memory stick using Windows XP via an USB memory card ready (format to FAT file system, not FAT32), so I guess that helped too.

I hope this works for you :)

Don't worry when you get E:61:00 error, simply strock it on hand forcely 3 4 times, then it will work fine.

I tried Tristan's advice by rapidly inserting and removing the memory stick about 10 times. It worked!

When inserting my Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo (256MB) into my new camera, I receive a Memory Disk Format Error (C: 13:01). Is there a way to correct this?

I found out the problem with Sony W80! try this out! slowly insert the stick and stop right when the message " acessing " appear on the screen, and keep it right there, you'll have to use your finger to hold it at that position, with the other hand try accessing your picture, or shot , or record, everything is ok.there's another way to do it: insert the stick and then slowly pull it out until the message "accessing" appear. does this mean the stick is not really fit with the socket? Sony's fault?

Is there a program you can use to retrive MPG videos? I have a program that can retrive almost everything except that type of file which is what my Sony does video in.
