My cybershot shot is like my baby so at first i was reluctant to hit it too hard but after about half an hour of constant spanking i gave it one good smack in the arse & it came perfect, no more errors & perfect focus, i couldnt believe it i was just about losing hope, especially at one point during the bashing session it actually got more broken & the lcd screen began to look warped. anyway thanx for the good advice people ive just saved myself alot of money, the technician here told me it needed a new part which would cost $200 id love to go back there & show him how to fix cameras by the bashing method. cheers

David - 4th Jul 2006 13:56 Oh My God!!!! The bash method works. I've had an old Hi8 Sony Handicam sitting in a drawer upstairs for the past 2 to 3 years. I had the infamous E 61:00 error as well, which is the reason why I threw it in the drawer and bought a new one. I saw it in there, remembered the error message and typed it in Google and your post came up about giving it a good smack down. I did it, the screen went out after a few good ones and then when I powered it back up it worked. Well done. We'll see how long it lasts but for now it seems to be working just fine.

Amazing!!! Absolutley amazing... As the last post stated, I too had gotten the E:61:00 error code on my Sony Cybershot. It sat in the drawer for a while until I decided to do a search on the error code itself. Needless to say I found this help site. The rest is history! It only took me about 4-5 medium bashes and it's like new again! The screen didn't even go out. I powered it off, bashed it, powered it on and BINGO!!! WOW! Thanks for turning me into a basher! lol...

oscar - 7th Sep 2008 23:06 This is incredible!
My camera showed the E:61:00 error message and I was so mad...
I let it alone for a couple of weeks in denial.
Today, I found this crazy method and I thought... it's already screwed up, if I'm paying for this, it'll cost the same if something else goes bad.
I banged my camera 3 or 4 times against my bed holding the lens and the body carefully but applying some force.
I turned it on and there was a funny sound in coming from the lens. The error remained. I turned it off and tried it again. I did this 2 times... then in the 3rd try it started to work!
Thanks a lot!!!! You saved me 200 bucks and I hope my message helps someone else.

Jen - 16th Feb 2006 4:22 Don't give up!!!!
I've had this c:13:01 error several times and was able to recover my photos each time without using a recovery program or taking apart my camera (I'd be too afraid of that!)
First, hook your camera up the the a/c adapter so you don't have to use your battery.
Second, hook your camera up to your usb connection.
(If you have windows XP: Then open "my computer" on your desktop. Windows xp has a native driver that will pick up the memory stick as soon as the computer is able to read the info)
Take out your memory card and using both hands if you have to, hold the camera while pushing in really tight on the memory card. Keep working with it. Take it out and put it back in. Keep trying until the photos show up on your computer. You are trying to make the connectors inside the camera memory slot make more contact with the memory card, even if it is just for a few moments.
Quickly and delicately download the photos all the while continuing to press on the memory stick. I'd say the loose connection is a large reason why the 13:01 shows up. I thought Sony put some sort of bug in there that will make it malfunction if you don't buy there super-expensive media cards but maybe that's not the case.
After you get your photos safely into your computer and off the camera...go to the setup menu on the camera and then "format". This will erase everything on your card so be sure you downloaded the pictures first. Then the error should be gone.
Good luck!
I have a Sony DSC-F828 8.0 Megapixel camera but from what I've researched, I think this same technique works with many models.
I wish SONY would give you a straight answer and some real help correcting this problem. I would love to throw the 100's of SONY items we own through their window!

I fixed it. Sony Mavica CD1000 was making a grinding noise, then the dreaded C:13:01 error. I took the camera apart. Lots of little screws and small ribbon cables. I found a small piece of spring steel with a nylon tooth on it that had lost its spring. I bent the spring steel a little bit, so that the nylon tooth would engage the threaded drive rod firmly. I reassembled the camera and its works better than ever. This job is not for the faint at heart but if you are patient and have a good working light and a tiny philips screwdriver, you can fix it yourself... For anyone interested, I even photographed the problem.

Hi,
Can you also send those photos to me? I love this Mavica CD1000 but can't afford to have it repaired or replace - and I get the same drive error message.
Thanks,
Dan

We use the camera often for documenting skin conditions. We have 3 1 dropped. It wouldn't focus and gave me the error message E:61:00 I took the advice of some people who posted and I whacked it with a hammer...tapped it actually around the lens. I think the lens gets stuck.
- Re: SONY C:13:01 ERROR
cdmavica - 3rd Nov 2005 21:29 you can fix this error?
- Re: SONY C:13:01 ERROR Ingrid - 6th Nov 2005 1:33
I had the same error on my sony dcs-p41 cam. After searching the net i didnt have much hope let but kept on trying.
Go to menu, tab 2 the memorystick, the format OK.... i did it twice and then suddenly next to the 3th line of "Change rec folder" the icon of a cam appeared again and there it was... my problem was solved.. ITS WORKING AGAIN!!!!!
I HOPE IT WORKS 4 U 2, it had nothing to do with the bended strips or so. I had a second stick and that was still working so the cam was ok for sure.
PS: i also put the stick on lock and took it off a couple of times (played with the switch on the back of the stick) It might have been the problem too... i will never know but i am happy with the result.
Good luck with it u all, Ingrid
