Ryan Galloway - 28th Mar 2006 16:54 I went to Mexico, and my SONY MEMORY STICK PRO DUO HIGH SPEED 1GB was working fine, on the plane back between changing the card in my SONY Cybershot D50, around from my SONY 512MB. I protected all the images on the camera from being deleted accidentally. (Would this have affected anything?)
I get the format error only on the 1 GB memory card. I don’t have a card reader so have to download through the camera. I have tried everything excepting taking the camera to bits. I have managed to get the files onto CD, through a shop but the files cannot be viewed. They appear as JPEG images and MPEG videos but nothing can open them. I have tried the trial version of badcopy, on the CD. Very badly need these pictures I’ve read right through all self help, but can’t understand why nothing works.
Please help. Many thanks.
Ryan

Rama - 30th Mar 2006 2:43 Hey,
The format option under the setup menu got the memory stick working again.

Pookie - 30th Mar 2006 23:56 OK....I have a Sony F717 that's just about three years old and it has given me loads of great pictures.
A couple of weeks ago I bought a SanDisk 1gb Mem Stick Pro Duo with the adapter to fit the F717's slot. Awesome! 400 hi-res pics on a little card! Worked great!
Last night I came home to the dreaded C:13:01 memory stick error message. I tried everything that I found as advice on the net to fix. Reset, removed battery, connected USB cable, removed and replaced card several times, etc. No luck. Took the cam and card to Circuit City where I bought the card and tried the card in another Sony and it worked fine. So, it's my camera. Fortunately I bought a four year warranty with it. I should have it back in a month. Knock on wood.

Pookie - 7th Apr 2006 0:59 Well, got my F717 back tonight 3 weeks earlier than originally promised (!).
What was wrong? They gave it a cleaning! As soon as they handed it to me I popped in the battery and my SanDisk 1gb Pro Duo w/ adapter, turned it on and.......it was fine.
They included a copy of a tip sheet concerning NOT formating Memory Sticks with your computer etc. which all pertained to Windows...but I use a Mac and you can't format a card with a Mac.
Maybe it was a dirty contact. But I did mess with em' before I sent it in.
Time will tell.
Best of luck to all!

- SONY C:13:01 ERROR--Give Up W - 4th Apr 2006 12:45
Everyone: I accidentally found out the bumping thing worked. But after a while, it stopped. Same w/reinserting memstick several times. I tried the eraser--no good. I used an Exacto blade to clean the contacts--no good.
Since the cam is not working & Sony would want mondo money to fix their own mistake, I found a site on how to disassemble the cam and check for loose wiring--no loose wires. I even took OUT the memory stick drive and disassembled it, cleaning the contacts and bending them a little just to make certain they would make contact w/the counterparts on the memory stick--no luck.
Look, this is an engineering prob that Sony refuses to acknowledge. If they would fess up and offer a recall, fine. But since they won't, I see it as major problem with how the company thinks about its self image (they can do no wrong) and how little value they place on good customer relations.
I strongly urge you to do as I am doing and never buy another Sony product. It's not just about the cam, it's about the company. We will never have a voice unless we join together. Individually, we mean nothing to Sony. We would be foolish consumers to continue giving them our money.

pookie - 8th Apr 2006 21:27 Hi again - Knock on wood my F717 is still OK.
I noted later on that a few were commenting about airport X-ray scanners and their suspicion of them causing the Memory STick problems. I found this particular web site which has tested various digital storage cards with airport X-ray devices and has found them to have no adverse effects on the cameras or storage media.
Here's the address. When you get there, look to the right on the download menu for the test results. It's a PDF file.

- Re[2]: SONY C:13:01 ERROR and The Anti-Sony crowd
pookie - 10th Apr 2006 0:54 I could of sworn that I touched on this matter in my first post, but no matter.
I can understand why one might be angry at Sony when your camera fails, but if you do a search for ANY given camera manufacturer regarding defects and complaints you'll find that THEY ALL (i.e. Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc.) have problems and they all have unhappy customers that will never buy their product again. It's the nature of our electronic world! I for one still love my Sony stuff! (and Nikon, Canon, etc!)

Soli Deo Gloria - 14th Apr 2006 8:29 I think I found out how to utilize the Sandisk Magicgate 256mb memory stick on Sony Digital Camera. Just did it successfully! I have a DSC-P73 Sony Cyber-shot.
First, I insert the Sandisk stick into the camera. Of course, I get C:13:01 memory error.
Then I plug my USB cable from my camera to my computer.
After that, I go to "My Computer" to find the drive that my camera is connected.
Then, I right click the drive and select format. I have Window XP home edition. I click the box where it says "quick format" and click "OK"
Finally, Whalla! There is connection! No more C:13:01 error!
Please let me know if this works for you.
